Hi, I need a good streetable cam. I recently purchased a set of heads from SSM with new Valve springs. I am looking for a cam that would be very streetable but I am still looking for some good power. I thought I would go with a compcam but Magnus said how he lost so much low end TQ. I dont want to loose much low end TQ because I still want it to be easy to drive and a good daily driver. So should I go with a compcam and just get one smaller than magnus or should I look into a cam from SSM? Any suggestions please. I am in desperate need of a cam but I am also not sure what to go with. I was also curious about the cam from grandprixstore.com they have one for the L36. The specs they have on that cam do you think it would work well with my 98 camaro?

I am very pleased with the results from the SSM cam, it's very streetable and I didn't see any loss of low end with the M5. If you are running springs on those heads that can handle a higher lift then get Tom to grind some more lift into a cam.Michael Huff
92 RS, 98 V6, 97 SS, 00 Z28
http://www.carolinafbodyclub.com/

You can either get a regrind or a COMP grind.. both of which you can get through supersix motorsports.
COMP will have faster ramps (More agressive lobes)
COMP will have more lift
COMP will be more agressive with less duration
COMP will move the powerband up
COMP will sacrafice low end
COMP will require pushrods and springs
SSM will have softer ramps (More streetable)
SSM does not allow for much lift
SSM requires more duration to be agressive
SSM will have a lower powre band
SSM does not sacrafice low end but does not top end like COMP
SSM should be safe with stock pushrods and springs
The big reason for many of these is the ramp rates.. The COMP cam is a much faster cam, meaning it openes the valve at a much faster rate.

COMP lobe
Magnus lobe j/k ;)
The 210/214 is a good SSM cam.. its very streetable and does not sacrafice low end.
The 212/212 COMP cam is very agressive.. its not so streetable and sacrafices low end for more top end.
A COMP 206/212 112LS should work a little better at being streetable without sacraficing much low end. This is the grind from the grandprixstore WHICH btw you can get directly through comp for $295.
a COMP cam would be more of a race cam because of its faster ramps, but because of this you need to rev it high.. you need things like a high stall converter and a big gear.
A COMP cam would make more HP than a SSM cam in the upper RPM's.. but the SSM cam would be more streetable without sacraficing the low end because of its somewhat slower ramp rates.
I'm curious how a COMP 206/212 112LS would do..
Many of us have changed our cams.. and results should be in very soon.. I'm very curious how all of our cars compare now. I'm looking forward to the results guys like Mike Huff, Nino and bluecmaro96 have with their new cams.
One of the key things is tuning.. make sure you have a good a/f ratio and decent timing advance.. Yesterday I added fuel to the car and I picked up some power.Keith - Chicago
HP Tuners - PCM Reprogramming
97 Firebird V6 to LS1 swap
V8 9.967@132.78 1.322 60\' NA Heads/Cam
V8 10.295@128.48 1.363 60\' NA Cam Only
V8 10.987@119.31 1.422 60\' NA Stock Internals
V6 13.674@98.22 NA
V6 12.394@104.91 N20 100HP
