  • PCM can learn... for real...!!!

I switched to 3.42' from 3.08's just recently. When I first picked up the car the 1-2 was a 4500rpm evertime at WOT. I have noticed that it has seemed to be getting better for whatever reason.

I just lift Discount Tire have my tire balanced and rotated. Then went down a nice open strech of hwy and dead stopped. I did not stall it I just WOT from a dead. The 1-2 shift was at 5600rpm and so was the 2-3 shift was the same. By that time I was well over 100mph and back in traffic where I slowed down.

I got one more good straight on the way and the 1-2 shift was around 5700rpm this time...!!!

I have put around 275 miles on the new gears, and it seems that the PCM has "learned" that they are there and changed the shift points.

    This is great...!!!!

Does this mean that my speedo is closer to right now as well...??

And, has anyone else experienced this...??? I may not need programming for the PCM if this is the way the new gears are going to shift all the time.
    just adding \'um \'till I trap 12.393...

Unfortunately I'm going to have to agree with Mr. Morgan. I'm not gonna call BS, but I'm just going to say that I think you are mistaken.

WOT shift points aren't that bad after going from 3.08 to 3.42. I didn't notice that much of a change. You're still gonna notice quicker shifting during cruise, and your speedo is still off. The PCM will not relearn gear changes.

Well, If my car will still shift at 5600-5700rpm's duruing each gear I am not in nearly as big a hurry to the get the PCM reprogramming. So maybe I am wrong, but what would explain the WOT 4500rpm shift when I first picked up the car..??

So I am not trying to start a flame thread, I am just simply reporting what I have witnessed over the last few days. I will try to check the speedo tomorrow to see how much it is off.

Anyway, I have noticed a small drip from the rearend. Should I get the gasket for the diff or just use the silicone to reseal the diff cover....??

The guy that did my gears refused to use a gasket. He used silicone.

                          Drove to auto parts store.
                          Bought a $3.19 gasket.
                          Drove home.
                          Put car on jack stands.
                          Pulled diff cover, on gasket.
                          Cleaned cover and housing.
Added a GASKET to the diff cover.
                          Tighten all bolts.
                          Stalled it to 2400RPMs, run a 12sec 1/4 (well maybe a 15).
                          Ran car over 100mph.
                          Came home.
                          Looked at diff, no leak.

for me it would have been:
                            drive to store
buy th e wrong $10 gasket
                            drive home
                            jack up car
                            strip some bolts
find out i bought wrong gasket
                            walk to autozone
                            come home
                            put gasket on
                            strip some more bolts
                            drive around
                            check for leaks
                            find a leak
                            go to bed crying

thats the way things would work out if i tried to do anything myself.
