Is it possible to get an output reading that the MAF sensor is getting? The reason being I always wanted to put an air/speed gauge in my car to see the amount of air coming into my ram air system. I was never able to accomplish this though for some reason. If I would be able to get some kind of output reading from the MAF sensor though I think I could rig something up. Would the code it sends be encoded though? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I dont know if you are just interested or actually want a guage, but you could do it with a super/turbo boost guage. All the guages read it psi or vac. I have heard of some guys with superchargers putting the guage's sender unit in the rubber/plastic intake. It should read the amount of psi comming in.

it was my understanding that the maf outputs a frequency based signal so you would need a frequency counter. most auto gauges are either mechanical or electrical (meaning variable voltage). of course it wouldnt be too hard to convert frequency to voltage.
MAF sensors put out a pounds per minute or grams per second reading. The easiest way to read this is with some scanning software and a laptop. www.obd-2.com has some scanning good software and a cable.
maf signal right off the sensor is a frequency signal on the 3800. the pcm combines the maf frequency signal with the ect, iat, tps, vss, trans range, and rpm signals to determine engine load. pcm uses map sensor as a basis of comparison of maf load calculations.
