  • serious about powerpack and...

    ok guys,
i have some money to put into my car in the spring, i was definately planning on the powerpack minus the intakes, but im lost on what else, these were my preliminary options:

ross pistons and l67 rods (since im using nitrous, maybe with this i could use a 100 shot with confidence?)

torque converter (i know this is a very useful mod but would this paired with the powerpack be begging for trouble.. problem wise?)

fuel pump, injectors, computer tuning (i know the tuning helps the powerpact alot but would tuning be a bad idea at this point if i plan on going with a tc or the pistons/rods in the future??)

everyones opinion wopuld be appreciated, im very serious about this and want to have some confidence in whatever route i take.

Why would having a torque converter be asking for trouble with the Powerpack??

well when i was reading the thread in advanced tech on the powerpack it was said in there that a powerpack and or t.c. might not be a good idea if you r car is a daily driver because these parts have a tendency to cause problems.

It won't be a problem at all. You can get both.

Only reason it says that both might be a problem for a daily driver is that the more power you have, and a higher stall, the less friendly your car tends to be for daily driving.

Yes maybe, but a converter is going to make the cam more streetable because with a agressive cam you usually lose alot of Idle. With a converter it will be much easier to take off from a dead stop.

What do you mean less friendly? You mean it won't be a smooth ride? As far as reliability goes, you'd think putting in a good aftermarket torque converter would actually make the quality of the car better considering most GM parts blow anyway.

Good call Pgriffith. I didn't even think about the idle difference with an aftermarket cam. I'm just so used to my LS1 friends who have ls1edit and make their idle very nice after a cam swap and the only driveablity issues for them is putting the power down on the street.

ok well i guess that settles my mood about whether it would be a good idea to pair the powerpack with a t.c., but do you guys think that would be the best combo from my original post?

im most interested in speed, i want to be faster than the z28s after this is said and done, do you think the t.c is the best option of the ones i listed.

also... im sure everyone read the rocker article in gmhtp, but did you read the letter to the mechanic in the front of the magazine, someone was asking about the internal strength of the 3.8, and the guy said that pistons are all you need for it, that the rest of the internals are strong enough to hold up, i believe he was talking about running nitrous... so if i get the power pack and just the ross pistons, would i then just bump up to a 100 shot and run mid 13's?
(also wouldnt the install on the pistons and powerpack together save me money??)

                    thanks
