  • What else for cam?

If I am lightly modded, which I am (ie. Intake exhaust) and was thinking about a cam...

    216/216
    112 LS
    108 IC
    (same as camaro_zach)

...I know it's better to have a full intake and exhaust for breating, but is it neccessary? I have a 3" cat-back and a Whisper Lid, would this suffice? Should I wait until I get headers and a FTRA? Also would these be the best specs for me?
Looking for a daily driver, stock heads, pushrods, springs etc., NA

    thanks
    -Andrew

in this business, never wait! you want a cam, you gotta just go out and get it. let the small things wait.
6s.......under the hood or under the belt, they just dont cut it.

      lol easy with the sarcasim.

I would reccomend against doing the cam before all of that. You wont see anywhere near the gains you want to see. Also, yes my car is fine and i do drive it daily, but thats because i love how its almost a drag car. When i pop out the clutch i do have to throw it some revs, it drops to 500 rpm sometimes and almost dies. also, this cam is perfect with my gears. people dont realize that my powerband is high now. Its a much stronger power band but it doesnt start at 2500-3000 like the stock cam does. it starts at like 4g. so when i shift im right back in my power band, where as a lower gear would be out of it, and youd have to work your way back into the power band. with this in mind, i say either get a smaller cam, or do some other mods first such as headers, exahust, intake, gears, etc. a cam is the last resort when you have run out of bolt ons to buy.

I am assuming you have 3.23 gears because you are a manual, this cam will suck horribly for you unless you get 3.73's at least. Just my honest opinon.

Yep. A Car only works well as a "Setup" you need to make a plan and then start widdling away at it.
You need to plan and replan your setup. A cam needs the right gearing to work well, and the cam should probably be the last "Link" in the setup.

if it helps you at all, i wanted a cam since the day i got my car, i had to wait almost 3 years until i did it. i got the car in may of 2002, i jsut put the cam in begning of feb, thats 3 months shy of 3 years. Beleive me it drove me nuts, but i did things right and did it in order. also the cam i have is huge, i will post a write up on it tonight and what few "troubles" im having with it. Its a great cam, but its for a very moded car, not the stock off the show room car. IM NOT SAYING THIS IS NOT A DAILY DRIVER CAM, its just not what most people are looking for, i get the ses light at idle sometimes at stop lights, and it wont go away for a few days, it wastes a lot of gas, you gotta run premimum in it, etc etc. It is no more the 20 mpg regualr gas burning fun v6. If you want a mild cam, id day 210/210 or 212/212. The powerband of my cam will not be worth anything with 323's on a manual, that would be a horrible combo. If you want to talk more about what you can do or if you have any questions drop me a line on aim, im more than happy to help you out and answer any questions you may have. We need more fast v6's but in order to be fast, you have to do things right, no cutting corners. Also, if you dont do the install, its going to run you 800+ for the install alone, not counting the cam itself. and if you dont do it yourself, i hope you have a cheap mechanic cause you will have problems every now and again, and if you cant take care of em, mechanics are very expensive, if you can even find a honest mechanic.
