• cam install update...

well today is monday and i cant' touch the car because it's at the autoskills center on base and they are closed on mondays.. :( :(

anyway got about 85% of the motor broken down..i'm taking off work tommorow and i got a buddy coming to help me tommorow. so i'll have 12 hours of full wrench time tommorow. i hoping to bring the motor back to life tommorow with alittle more hp .

i'll let everyone know how things are going.. so far nothing is broken.. i even saved the little plastic piece that everyone seems to break..

thanks to ironman24.. i have been calling him with my problems and he gives me 100% support and is really helping me with the install./

when i done i'll WILL be writing a up a guide to the best of my knowlege... there is little things out there that everyone needs to know that you don't hear on this board..i have asked for a step by step cam install guide like 50 times and never got it.. i got plenty of tips, but i really wanted a setp by step guide..

haynes can be vague and it jumps all over the place.. there is also special tools you need for pulling fuel lines apart and stuff like that....

so i'll keep everyone posted on the cam install and hopefully i'll be hitting the track this weekend with a full bottle of n20 , my new converter and my "vs" cam which someone people on this board are disagreeing with.. we'll have to wait and see ;)

    Sounds like it's going well
You should definately write a step-by-step and post it. I would love to read it 'cause the Haynes manual IS pretty vauge.

    Hope everything goes well!

              No prob mike.

              Couple notes:

Don't forget the 3 bolts that go in through the oil pan into the front cover.

Be careful taking the plastic guard/cover off after you remove the crank pulley. it can crack easily.

Pay close attention to how thigns come off of the front cover like bolts and such, and the crank position sensor. Notice how the wires are run through that section also.

On the pass side there are 3 bolts near the coolant passageway. One of which is blocked by the water pump pulley. Unscrew this bolt as far as you can, then pull the cover off a little, then unscrew it more.

If the front cover is a little stuck tap on the dowel pin on the lower driver side. It maybe rusted to the front cover which has to slide over that.

thanks for the tips keith... now once the crank pully comes off is there a ton of stuff underthere.. does the balancer come apart... haynes is very vague when it comes to stuff like that..

balancer does not come apart, the pulley in its entirity comes off.

make sure you get those dots lined up perfectly. When you line up the balance shaft and cam sprocket first, do NOT turn the cam at all to put on the cam gear when you're lining up the crank to the cam sprocket. That will help the line up process a lot. ALso visually extend the dots to their tooth and try lining up the teeth, that helps.
