• Ordering My Cam Friday!!!!

Well after many posts, and many discussions with board members, I found a cam that I think will be awesome, and hopefully avoid a lot of knock problems....
I am ordering the 214/214 112ls 108ic from compcams.. The lift is low enough for stock valvetrain, but I will throw in some LS1 or maybe LS6 springs to avoid valve float.
It is similar to CamaroZachs cam, but a little less duration. I have had many (Probably too many ;) ) discussions with him and he was a big help. Thanks again Zach.

Any recommendations on my setup would be awesome.

I will keep everyone posted on how it works out.
I will dyno after I install it to see where my powerband is so I can select the right gears.

Headers in a week or two, clutch very soon also. Then I will install the cam.

Sounds fun man. When you get ready to get a new clutch, I highly recomend the SPEC stage 3! I made a post in the drivetrain section. Feel free to IM me later on anytime if you have questions about the SPEC clutches, I did alot of research on them before buying mine.

I believe the cam will be about $300 and the springs about $50 or so.

How come you decide to go with less duration? Wasn't Zach's running strong with 216?

Also, are the LS1 springs just 'piece of mind' or are they neccessary?

thanks

I don't want to have my powerband up quite as high as zachs, plus I want to avoid any trouble. The 214 is not much difference from the 216. The valvesprings are not necissary, but I have a hunch that they will be important. For $50....

Which would be better? Are they a direct fit? Stock or aftermarket?

As for the 214* duration, would it be better to have this duration with 3.73's? I know Zach's got 4.10's, is that why he wanted a higher powerband?

From what I hear they are direct fit. THe LS6 springs can handle a little more lift, but I think the LS1 springs are enough. I am hoping this cam will work well with 3.73s... we'll have to wait and see...

I am doing the install. I am looking at spending 2-3 days. ;)

I wanted my cam because its huge and i knew it would lope hard and produce a ton of hp. However whenever you get a huge cam like this your powerband is moved up. and when i got my 4.10's i was thinking ahead and knew i would want a cam and i want every ounce of power out of my car that i can squeeze out. so i went with the 410's the first time. Speaking of which, im about to take my car to work, which is 26 miles away and 20 of thoes miles are highway miles.

I planned out what I wanted to do, and I decided not to have a powerband *quite* that narrow. I am hoping to get by on 3.73s.

Zach... what is the high end of the powerband on that cam? I was wondering how much you were missing out on with the rev limiter.

my rev limiter is at 6400, so when i shift im right at my power band, with a stock limiter this would not be as efficient as it is now. Im still not sure that a 214 214 is the best possible, i know you want the most power you can get but for a more mild car with 373's i honestly reccomend a 212/212, i think keith would agree with me. my car is setup for drag racing, as is keiths. i drive around on slicks and skinnies all the time with no front sway bar, lol.

I am going to talk to the guys at comp cams before I for sure order it. But heres the deal. I would ultimately like a 212/212, but they don't make one in the extreme 4X4. I think the 210/210 might be a little bit of a "weenie" cam. The last thing that I want is a weenie cam!

I really honestly don't care about going with 4.10s but I have no way to get my PCM done anyway. What good is a cam if I hit the speed limiter at 70 mph! :D

i wonder if you can run the 212/212 xtreme engery with stock heads and what not. i will see what i can find out for ya. and in all honest, the diffrence between a 212 and a 210 is like 5 hp.

Well I talked to comp cams today, and I think the duy may have been mistaken. He said that the 214.214 cam has a powerband from 1,500 to 5,500 and that the 216/216 had a powerband from 1,650 to 5,750... Not sure...
