  • What cam size should I get for my car?Paging Magnus,Ironman24,and other experienced

I have a 99 Camaro and I want to know what size cam I should purchase. I'm not familiar with camshafts and how to calaborate them with other internals (valves, springs, rockers). I heard and liked the sound of Camaro_Zach and Ironman24's cam. I don't want something that will take me an hour to start either. Something in the middle. I plan on also getting my Intake P&P or purchasing one from Super 6 motorsports along with a set of their heads. I have minor bolts on (intake, exhausts, and headers soon) I need some advice and help please. What do I need to do about computer tuning after the install and how much will it cost me to tune it? Also please do not post smart replys. Thanks

it all depends on what your idea of a streetable car is. my cam would not idle well with an automatic due to how hard it lopes, you would need a real loose converter. you didnt state if you have a manual or auto. is it a daily driver? what gears? this all helps determin it. because my cam really isnt good for anything less than my 410's because when i shift im right at the begning of my powerband. if i had 373's i would be out of my powerband. So if you have a 373 or lower gear you might want to try a 212/212 with a ls of 112, which would give you the lope you want. if you are going to do heads, intake and cam, dont get one that "sounds" good, go all out and get something huge. Heads and intake alone will run you close to 2g, and then after gaskets and what not right at 2g or right over. then the cam is $305, so make sure you konw what kind of car you want when its done, dont just listen to my car and say is sounds nice and you want my cam, a lot of variables determine what cam you should get so tell us more.

It's a manual, yes it's a daily driver, 3.42's with LSD. I want something that will give me nice low end torque but not kill my high end, I may end up putting nitrous or a SC later on. Is it worth getting a P&P intake from SSM or should I just P&P my own? Should I modify the heads on my engine now or just buy a set from SSM? Are the heads from SSM worth buying? Also can my JET Module work with my cam after the install?
      Thanks a lot

The heads from tom are modified stock heads. no matter what you do you will have modified stock heads. also you cant just buy a cam now, and get a blower later. you will have to do a cam swap again. a good NA cam is not a good blower cam. and yes you can use your jet chip.

i would say get a 210/210 112ls 108ic 4x4 energy cam from comp cams. This is a strong cam that would be a great daily driver.

I talked to a guy from Super Six motorsports and he recommended the following cam specs:

          1. 214/214 .51/.51 110 separation
          2. 216/216 .51/.51 112 separation
          3. 220/224 .51/.51 114 separation

I was thinking about the second one with a set of their heads and P&P my current intake. Should I change my pushrods and rockers while their out?

          Thanks Camaro_Zach for the advice

man do i remember the times when .5 lift or higher was just taboo.

i wonder why he didnt recommend my cam??
he is the one i got it from. oh well, i guess he researched more options.

my cam is very streetable- when the car is not in the shop!
i got 220/224 .47 114 l/s and that is what SSM recommended to me.
6s.......under the hood or under the belt, they just dont cut it.

You guys think I should go with nino's cam specs or the second one on the list from SSM? Are the cams from SSM regrinds or fresh? If their regrinds can I request one that's fresh from SSM?

                - Nino you have a 2000 with a 3.4?
