  • Rebuild.... 3.8?

I really am uninformed when it comes to engine internals and such. I just picture all the parts in the engine wearing away and therefore power being lost. Eventually id like to do an engine rebuild of some sort.

I suppose anything that has seals or gaskets on it should be replaced for a rebuild.

i hope im making sense here...

If i went with the supersix powerpack, would that in any way be equivalent to an engine rebuild? The added power from the sixpack (Includes ported cylinder heads , new valve seals, ported upper and lower intake manifolds, and reground cam) is appealing but i would more like to get back what ive lost. would this be beneficial at all. i dont know how much power ive lost over time if any, but itd be nice to know that the engine is in tip top shape

Includes ported cylinder heads , new valve seals, ported upper and lower intake manifolds, and reground cam.

you loose more power in wear of teh piston rings than in the top end of the motor...you will need to change rod/main bearings, have the block honed, possibly bored if the cylinder walls are too worn, new rings, new oil pump, cam bearings, then if you dont do the super six powerpack, get your heads surfaced, valve job, possibly new guides and valves depending on how worn they are, maybe new valve springs, then all the gaskets, i may have left somethin off but this is off the top of my head...you can cut a few corners here but this is to make it like new again...

If you don't know, you'd better have someone do it for you, there is a lot that needs to be done...do yourself a favor and get a lifetime subscription to HotRod and read every word they say. After a couple years you'll have enough basic knowlege to do it.

what would be cheaper? having someone do a rebuild and then adding the supersix powerpack... or just buying a used 3.8 (say 40,000 miles) and putting in the power pack
