• Heck yeah! KR goes down.

After a month of trying things I was finally able to defeat the KR daemons!

I installed a ZZPerformance GT cam in feb. 210/210 .507/.507 111ls 107ic This thing pulls like a mo-fo.

Above 4800 rpms I was maxing out the KR sensors. But I was not getting any Knock Sensor counts.

The things I tried:
shorter retainers
colder plugs
fixed exhaust banging
stock coils
race gas
bigger injectors
I'm sure I'm forgetting a bunch of small things.

But I relocated the Knock Sensors and was able to defeat the problem. Unfortunately this is only a temporary solution. A better way to desensitize the sensor is the best answer. Stupid over sensitive sensor. Hopefully I'll get her to the track this friday night.

The drivers side is taped/zip tied to a wire loom about 4 inches from the original sensor.(basically the motor mount) The passanger side is zip-tied to a wire loom above the valve cover.

Final Solution. A simple adjustable resistor circuit wired in line with the knock sensors. At roughly 12% desensitized I see just a tad bid of burst knock.

Hopefully I'll put together a webpage with the circuit drawing and some pics in the next few days.

Does any one have a service manual? I'd like to see if there is anything about Knock Retard without Knock Counts.

Glad to hear you have the knock figured out. I think we were running out of ideas! I'm curious to see the wiring diagram. If I get any knock from valvetrain mods I know who to call.

Please provide pictures soon, my kr is hacking me off with this cam.

When you say tapped, did you have to tap a new hole for them to screw into or what did you do to attach them?

Seppo, autotap may show a knock count # but that doesn't mean your PCM really supports it.

If you NEVER EVER see a knock count, i bet it's not provided by your PCM. The newer ones are different than the older ones.

A quick webpage I did for it.
http://home.earthlink.net/~khandlon/knock.html

Magnus - True but after running 100 octane it has to be false. Or something is majorly(is that even a word?) wrong with my engine and I'll be swapping engines soon.

So do knock sensors still work how they were designed when relocated like this? I thought they had to be some how fixed to the engine block pretty tightly. Either way I'll be calling around to junk yards tomorrow in search for some spare knock sensors.

Sorry.... Thats a little miss leading. Relocationing the Knock Sensors was a test to see if desensitising them would fix my problem. The little circuit is now wired in line with the stock knock sensors.

The knock sensors don't have to be in the block, but then do have to be grounded. (note the hose clamps and wire in the first picture)

I just want to up this one.. and give props to Seppo.

I've BEEN under the car and have pulled the knock sensors, it's not a fun job at ALL. I can understand the time and effort you put into your knock sensor project.

Good job man!
