Are you doing it yourself? If so, is there a website you're using as a guide, or have you done it in the past? Also, if one were to port his own heads, can you just take them to the shop to have them flow tested and pay per test or what?

I have played around with sets of junk 350 heads before so i kinda know what i am doing. Yes u can take them to a flow benchto just be flow tested. I am gonna do all the porting and then pay for someone to do a 3 angle valve job

I think tiago's response brings much support to slacker and his efforts. Your post on the otherhand provides no support for slacker and his efforts. One might even say your reply is just that, a free post. Consider YOURSELF warned. ;)

Slacker, i'm no expert in head porting by any means... but I would think less porting more polishing and smoothing out of the air passageway.

I myself am not an expert either, and you can discount what I say. But it is my belief that you do not want to open up the ports too much. Some of the things I can remember off the top of my head. I did my own and I am very pleased with the results they gave.

                    1. Don't hog out the ports, you can easily kill your port velocity on these heads, thus killing all your low-mid range power.
                    2. On the intake port, grind down the injector boss, make sure it is tapered down from the entrance. Kind of like a funnel effect
                    3. Lower the profile of the valve guides.
                    4. Think of a water park slide and how the water hugs the outside of the turns. At high velocities, air acts the same way.
                    5. Don't grind on the short side radius, just polish
                    6. Most of the benefits are right below the valve seat.
                    7. polish the combustion chamber and make sure there are no sharp edges that could induce detonation.
                    8. Polish the exhaust ports to a mirror
                    9. Finally, LESS IS MORE. Don't give in to the temptation to take a little more off here and there.

Here are a few pics, but I really didn't document the project that well. Most of the pics of the bowls were very early on and looked alot better toward the end. They were after the first pass over.

Mine are starting to look more like yours. I really havent ported much at all it was mostly takeing the casting and rough arears out and then polishing them really good. I just started the combustion chambers. The are lookin good most ports have a nice smooth areas with mirror finishes.

I had a prof shop do mine.
They ported the snot out of my heads and upper/ lower intake manifold.
Supposidly they removed 3 coffe cups worth of metal shavings.
                              3 angle valve job
                              full port and polish
                              bowl/ pocket porting
                              milled 0.010 over
inside the intake runner's there was an area ground down extensively

I don't think the gains are extremely obvious but once combined with many other mods they can really make a difference.

Remember, I am one of the lowest dynoing numbered people here but I have one of the fastest et's and incredible fuel economy (33.4 mpg!!!)

                              Take your time with them.
In my opinion hog the snot out of them. Do it with care though
