hey, please me me on this question befor I order this cam
Hey, quick question. Comp Cams say that they have a cam that is, and this is tottal lift of the cam times the rockers size. 517 lift on the intake, and 496 lift on the exhaust, and say that it is a computer friendly cam and well not throw any codes. To the best of what you all know about cams, well this cam work with my 97 3.8 f-body?
Oh yea I forgot, they also have the springs, retaners, and stronger push rods to match everything so that it will al work with no problem.
I don't get codes from my cam. That doesn't mean my car is running right though, I have other problems which will hopefully be solved soon.
Specs on my cam: Comp Cam 206(int)/212(exh) 113lsa .512(int)/.520(exh)
You have a degree less lobe seperation as well as a few less in duration so yours should sound like mine at idle. There's sound clips on my website if you want to hear them, before and after the cam.

That cam will sound nothing like yours ttop. Even it being a 112lsa and less duration it will still have less valve overlap.
That cam is weak. The 112lsa isnt going to make up for the lack of duration. I would suggest getting something with more duration. I put a 196/196(duration) cam in my car and it sucks. Wasnt even worth my time and money. Learn by my mistake. Its not worth putting in a pussy cam. If your going to put one in get one like Ttop's cam or search advanced tech and even Tech database to see what cams other members are using. If you have any other specific questions please ask.
I know that free responses and such arent allowed in this section, but that was totally uncalled for. I thought Pgriffith's response was very helpful- he was relating his own experience, which is a very nice thing to do. He was trying to help you- he could have just kept his mouth shut, and you wouldnt know how the cam would perform.
Instead, somebody who has a similar cam was letting you know how your car would perform.
Calm down.

Somebody's on the rag. I meant nothing personal. Just telling you how it is. You wanted answers and I gave them to you because I have had a similiar experience. Nothing personal lets all get along ok.
if you already have heads done, perhaps a little more lift, more duration, and bigger lobe separation. 210/216 duration, .525/.525 lift, 114 LS, and 111 IC. This cam should have about the same amount of overlap as the cam u first brought up, but it will make more power than the other one. your cam seems small considering that your heads are already ported and intake/exhaust mods have been done. that's why I upped the lift so much. the increased duration is because u can pull more air into the motor w/o all the restrictions in the way. the increased lobe separation is to try to give you the same type of pwerband as the previous cam u chose. increasing duration w/o increasing lobe separation will cause more overlap. i kept the same intake advance as u had just to give u the somewhat peaky powerband that the other cam was offering.
