I am rebuilding my 3800. I think the balance shaft has got to go.

I did a search on the balance shaft, and only got one decent response. Someone said to plug the balance shaft oil hole in the back of the block, inside the lifter valley. What about the bearing in the front of the balance shaft? Doesn't it need oil too?

I was thinking of leaving the balance shaft in the block to keep oil pressure up. I will just remove the gear on the front of the shaft to keep it from spinning and robbing power.

It is a ghetto mod, but I am really worried about losing oil press through the balance shaft oil galleys.

You can use the bearing to block off the oil, just put it in the wrong way.
If is is like a cam bearing knock it out and put it in with the oil hole facing away fron the galy hole.
if it is like a main or rod bearing flip them around and block off the oil hole.

I also heard you have to get the reciprocating assembly rebalanced.... Something about balanced to 50% or something like that.

Go to the intenseracing site, and read the description of their race ready short block, and you'll get an idea of what must be done.

I am getting my rotating assembly balanced at the machine shop.

I found this, it has good advice: http://www.3800performance.com/vehicles/camaro_miva.htm

I like the idea about putting in the bearing backwards. I might do that if I can't find a plug for the rear oil hole.
