  • Grand Prix lower intake manifold gasket leak and front main leak how hard to work on?

Ok fellas i know some of u know about the 3.8 grand prix and i know about DEE so i am hoping some of u can help me out here my mom has a 97 grand prix and got a estimate for a bad lower intake manifold gasket and the front main is leaking i looked at it he estimated almost 6 hours of labor for the gasket costing about 330 then like 20 bucks for the gasket then he said a hour on the front main

i think it's crazy he is a mechanic and said 6 hours for the gasket i know they have a book that tells em how many hours they can charge for but anyway my question

i am thinking of atleast doing the lower intake gasket to save 330 $ i took a look at it and it seemed to be pretty basic upper intake fuel rail lower intake not too much trouble is there anything i should be aware of anything diff any tips? i have only worked on my 3.4

There is nothing extremely difficult, but it does take time. Now that I have had mine apart, I could probably do it in 4-5. So 6 sounds about right.

It is always alot cheaper to do it yourself. If you have the time you can save your money.

I don't think it took that much time when my 99GT got worked on. They replaced the starter & found the gasket leak too. Hmm, wonder if they'll do a recall on it Total cost of the starter & gasket change, covered on warranty :D , was about $680. Starter alone was $320
