• Any advice on springs to compliment SLP 1.8 roller rockers?

Well, it is no surprise I have bought them.
I stopped by SLP headquarters and met the owner of that v6, spoke with the head tech's and so on and I was intreaged.

I have 83,000 miles on this engine.

I drag race it quite often.

The SLP rockers will be used with the stock cam

I could just put the SLP roler rockers straight on and reuse the old ones but that doesn't make sense due to 80,000+ miles of wear and tear. Also the potential stress just on them already just doesn't make sense to go that route.

Or, I could just buy stock brand new ones and use them. Brand new is better but it is stock.

Stiffer aftermarket ones?

Why am I bringing this up? I was at an f body gathering last night and I was speaking to the service manager of Jay Fischer Pontiac. He has an 11-10 second maro. He is also an ex writer for GMHTP.

His suggestion was to upgrade these also.

He guessed at maybe the LT1 hotcam upgrade spring used with that cam but he did not know if that would work with a v6.

I know we have these parts (zzperformance, I think) available to us.

I do not know about these things and I think this mod will become a more popular one. There were 6 people in the GP on these.

Any advice, suggestions or comments are needed and welcomed!

I think this is worthy of advanced tech

Update: I contacted SLP and spoke with one of their tech's (Joey). They had no suggestion for a non stock spring. They have not tested beyond that. They have made this a true bolt on kit only

I have heard that LS1 Springs, and LS6 Springs work nicely, alot of the LS1 guys who do a cam use the LS6 springs. The should fit, and they will handle the increased lift no problem.

Any stock shaped LS1 spring will work. Stock LS1 springs are a slight upgrade. 2001 LS6 springs should be more that enough. I bought a used set off ebay for cheap.

tbyrne has the best set of LS1 spring stats I've seen.

I would go with some compcams 915's or 916 springs. I am using the 915's on my car.

This is a good thread. I orderd the SLP rockers also and have been debating a spring change. With the reground cam my lift will be .500, not as high as some of the comp camed guys but I don't like the idea of stock springs either. Kinda in the same boat as James here.

Slacker, are you running the slp springs on the car now?

I'm leaning toward the stock LS1 springs, they will cover my lift and won't be overkill.

Good, I'm just trying to learn about these things. So far I'm interested in the SLP parts so everything is the same brand.

As for the stock LS1 springs... from what I've learned (and I do NOT know much about this topic) I am learning that LS1 owners, at minimum, with your average heads n cam package go to the LS 6 springs.

Maybe LS6 springs would work better for you?

I don't know but I figured I'd throw out that bit of info I've heard

Yeah I was looking at the chart that Seppo posted on Tbyrne's page. I'm sure most of the LS1 folks are going to run well over .500 lift, and a LS6 or SLP spring would be perfect for that.

My understanding is that too much spring pressure is not a good thing. Just more work to open the valve. (I'm learning here also). I figured for you and I the LS1 spring would be plenty since our lifts aren't going to be over .500 I just don't see the need for a higher lb SLP spring that is good to .610 unless we are running a monster cam with crazy lift.

I'm sure both the LS1 spring and 2001 LS6 spring would work fine.

Hmmmm, for a stock cam though.....
Does anyone know if the LS1 springs should work?
Should I skip the LS1 springs and bump up to a LS6 spring?
My car is not a high rev'er
It will keep a stock cam in for now

Stock cam with SLP 1.8 Rockers = .464 lift. Thats not that much. Any springs will work just fine with this small of a lift. Even stock springs. You can run real close to .500 before you have to change springs. I think zach is running .507 lift and he is still running stock springs, malloynx is running .512 lift on stock springs. There is really no need to change your springs for .464 lift unless there is something wrong with your stock springs.

I would go LS6 Springs. Not super mean springs, but more than you need. Do it right the first time.

Well if you plan to do springs the LS6 springs will be more then enough. I would suggest getting these ones because they are going very very cheap. Check these out:
