  • FAST fuel system.

I have come to a conclusion that the numbers that I am looking for out of my project will require a stand alone fuel system, I can't get around it. I have done a search, and seen that the FAST system can work on a 3.8l, but what exactly does it replace from the OEM system? How does it work in correlation with the PCM on our cars? If anyone has any info that would be nice.

PS, please don't crap up my post by saying that this it not a cost effective way to make HP. My whole project isn't cost effective, but I knew this from the beginning, so no amount of telling me this info is going to change my mind.

Fast systems are a HUGE investment.. and since your car is a 97.. if you are not obd2 you can get away with it..

they are bascily full on stand alone engine conrtoll units.. it replaces your WHOLE factory ecu..

its ALOT of wiring but they are not that bad.. and have good instuctions.. but its one hell of a commitment..

what exactly do you plan on doing to the car that makes this a requierment??

if he is serious about using it , he's probably planning on lots of boost, giggle gas, compression or a combination of them

i know 2 people that are running them on LT1's and i know one of them is very happy with it (dont really talk to the other)

dont forget to check out motec and haltec, they both make excelent computers as well

When I upgrade to one or more of the following I will get a FAST/ DFI system:

        1) cam
        2) stroker kit
        3) forged internals
        4) 150+ shot of nitrous

Decent amount of wiring, WELL worth it for hardcore people!

I've seen them for $1,000+ which in the long run for the potential of power/ tq of a hardcore set up it is WELL worth it

Exactly. I am planning on about 20-30 lbs. of boost, with a 150-250 direct port shot of nitrous, if neccessary. With this being done, the stock system is not going to deliver the fuel needed. And with the money being spent and numbers I am looking to get, I can't cut corners.

The stock block is tougher than you think.. Remember it is cast iron.. ;)

if you cant bore it over .010 w/o the cylinder walls getting too thin, its not tough enough for 30lbs of boost a 150hp of nitrous, cast iron or not, if the cylinders dont crack the mains will probably break... ;)

Thats just a guess that it will break though until someone tries putting massive amounts of power through one we won't know!

boring the motor out .010 over doesn't compromise a mot of strength. Intense does it w/ their race blocks, and they've held over 600 flywheel hp. alos, if ur so worried about the block, go get it cryo-treated. doing just that increases strength considerably and will allow u 2 fit the motor w/ tighter clearances since it won't distort as much under higher amounts of heat.

Cryo treating may be a must for at least the block, crank, and rods. Got to get a hold of this comapny called Diversified Cryogenics in Minnesota, they look as though they have treated parts for amateur and professional race teams, brake rotors, transmission parts, things of that nature.

As for boring the motor out, I don't plan on it. I want to use the same bore as stock, only dropping the compression with L67 specs and a thicker head gasket.

EDTI: I will take that back, the block I get from Intense is already bored over .010.
