Hypertech/Jet Chip

Hi folks,

I am from Europe and own an export 2000 V6 Camaro. The different chips and programmers available confuse me.

As far as I understand for the US models there are two main suppliers: Jet Chips and Hypertech. The Jet Chip is a chip that will work on Camaros up to 1999, the Hypertech programmer will work on Camaros from 2000 on. Correct me if I am wrong. But this means, that the engine management on a 2000 Camaro has to be different from a 1998 or 1999 one.

Well - in Europe there is only one supplier, this company offers a chip, just as Jet does. They claim however, that their chip works on all modell years from 1998 to 2002, because the computer would be identical. Can that be true???

If so, then probably the export Camaros have a different engine management compared to the US Camaros. Unfortunately Hypertech is not able to confirm whether their product will work on an Export Camaro.

And just in case the 2000-up models really ARE different: since my car is a 2000 I have doubts that the European chip will fit the car.

What to do????

Jet offers chips for 98+ cars
Hypertech offers only 2000-2002
I'm not totally sure but based on the hypertech I would assume that before 2000 is different from 2000 and after...or the hypertech would work on all of them.
Try calling the company and talking to them about it...

And I didn't think jet made a chip for 97 f-bodies
I wasnt listing pre 98 things because hes asking about a 98+

Allright:

I looked again to the Jets website, and you guys are right, they offer a PCM for 2000 models.

I also have received a reply from Westers Custom Programming, and they confirm that they can deliver for Euro-spec Camaros.

Since the German TÜV prohibits most of the performance mods, I will run my car mostly stock, except for be a SLP Airbox and a RAM Air system. I can´t change the exhaust, because that would be too obvious.

With this configuration given: Would be the HPP, the Jet PCM or the Westers Custom Programm be the better choice?

My camaro has been bought in 2000, but it's a 1999 model (check your VIN)
Hypertech are 2000+ and Jet chip doesn't remove the governor... I'm so pissed
Don't trust the european company, I think it's BS...
I send mail to them, I'm sure they're never seen a camaro (powerchip or giwasa).
That's what giwasa said to me :

A real tuning is made with the car,Westers Custom Programm are mail tuning.

They stole us 10hp in europe with our exhaust
200 hp SAE = 202.8 hp DIN , and our camaros are 193hp rated.
I've just ordered a catback, I think it's the best way to give us real hp.

I've got a question with octane degree:
In France I run with a 95 octane fuel and I don't know if our computers are tuned for this

And yes...I hate the governor.

I have heard from the Owner of a 1999 V6 convertible in Germany, that he has used the JET Chip, and that it indeed removed the gouvernor. He claimed, that with a SLP airbox and a Borla exhaust his car was going at least 230km/h (143 mph)according to the speedo. That would be about 220 - 225 km/h in reality.

I am tempted to buy one of these Jet PCMs on my next trip to the US. As you probably know, shipping to Europe is too expensive. (50$ shipping, 25$ payment fees because they do not accept credit cards from European residents, 9% custom charges and on top of that 16% VAT in Germany. I know - France charges even more!)

With the Octane I would not worry. In Europe they sell as Regular what they call Premium in the US. In Germany Premium plus is up to 100 Octane. So for an US car our gas is better than it needs to be. Unfortunately our gas is also more expensive than it needs to be. Premium Plus here in Germany is more than 5$ per gallon at the moment.

Just to let you know, SLP doesn't make an airbox for a V6.

Ask him how long it took him to get to 143 mph with those mods in a conv.

hmmm.. I dunno.. I would imagine that he export cars have different ecu's.. do you all even have an obd2 port?? thats critical for the hypertech..

I am sure that keith/magnus will probably be able to shead some light on this topic.. may want to PM him over at hptuners.com..
