There are a few people on here that have done one. Not sure how many still hang around. I pop in and look at advanced tech and forced induction every now and then...

If you get all new stuff, you're still going to need the accessories (alt, ps, water pump, a/c) and all the brackets. PCM, wiring harness. Radiator. Engine k-member. Tranny cross-member. Front springs. A donor car, or a complete pull-out, would be a lot simpler than trying to piece it together. You can always freshen up the ls1. Maybe even go heads and cam right off the bat with the money you save.

What about FI? Maybe not quite as good as an LS1, but it would be way better than a NA V6 (so they say). It would be cheaper and way easier than the LS1 swap. Plus, if you put a V8 in there, you have to pay the insurance for a V8, which will be horrendous if you are young. A FI V6 is still a V6. Of course that is the big downfall...it's still a 6.

I dont know about u guys but here in central florida
TAs and Z28s 96 and up in nice condition with 80K miles on them go for 10 grand all day. Sell your sixer for 6 grand and BAM! you have a LS1 for 4 grand. I understand they are higher in other states but in florida they are 10 grand give or take a grand.Unless your dead grandma gave you your car or you had your body dipped in gold then it is a massive waste of time and money to do the swap.

I've done the swap and 7k is about right for the total swap. There are more things needed as was stated, then just the engine and tranny to make everything work right. If you go with the same year it makes things a little better (cheaper) though.

I try to come back and help out who I can since I got my start here

im going to do a swap, 99 transam ls1i found, i wanna put in, says it has wiring harness, a/c, suposedly everything, tranny, stock driveshaft, torqu arm, the ecm. my car is 2000 v6 m5, i was told i could use my steering rack , and rear end, im gonna change to 3.73 with limited slip. ive noticed the underneath of the v6 and v8 , there is more room under the 8 and the exauhst piping is diferent by alot, so if i got the supermaxx headers for the ls1 i wanna put in, i have to do have the underneath piping custom? and also, will te 99 ls1 ecm, harness, started, everything bolt in? with the ls1 kmember of course.

Your steering rack won't work. The lines are going to interfere with the alternator, and the steering shaft is going to be aimed at the #1 exhaust primary tube.

Rear end is ok.

All the 1999 stuff should be compatible with your 2000. Your v6 fuel lines will be different than the ls1.

All i know is if i wanted to spend money dropping a v8 into my bird i would just order some monster bad Ąss crate motor from summit. You know the ones that make the Ls1 look like a lawn mower motor.

YO therock, so is that procharged big block basically just an engine? Cause I'm going to do the swap but I can probably find someone to do it for me. So how much do you thinkg a procharged big block, tranny and everything needed would cost me? Without labor that is. Email me at scof0elife@yahoo.com bro. Lets chat about this real quick.

hmm, seems like a less pain in the arse, and about the same price to find you a Ellis Juan car with low miles.... its not like they are rare
