• SuperSix Sent Me.........

........here to find the answer to my question.
I was talking to them about building me a complete race-prepped 3.8L since I've been looking for an engine replacement for some time now. Then I asked them about computer tuning, since I know there is basically nothing offered in that area for a '97 3.8L.
They said "Magnus is the guy you want to talk to" So here I am. I'm Just wondering what can be done to the ECU to take full advantage of that setup.
1997 Camaro,
SLP cold-air, Hooker Supercompetition catback, Air temp. module, Powerstat thermo, 1LE Aluminum drive shaft, 3.42 POSI rear, 1LE sway bars front & rear, Powerstop crossdrilled rotors on all corners, Torque Thrust II\'s (17x9.5 front & 17x11 rear), and a couple other goodies. http://www.villagephotos.com/pubbrowse.asp?selected=84487

Welcome to the board.

They sell pistons that work with the L67 rods.. If your going all out thats probably the setup you'll go with.

Those pistons can handle 18+ lbs of boost.

As for tuning issues... I am working on programming of these PCM's however I cannot discuss it at the current time. I do minor reprogramming now but have not done cam reprogramming just yet..

When I think of cam reprogramming, here are the basics:
Increased desired idle (depending on agreesiveness)
Increased rev limiter
Inrease shift points

You can also change the fuel curve to match the new VE of the engine, but thats a little more complex.. I won't go into that at the current time.

Another things is timing advance.. but even a stock camm'd car could benafit from increased timing so this isn't a cam only adjustment. Same with top speed limiter.

If your looking to fine tune the car, a MAF T+ is the best way, even if you do have programming. With a MAF T+ you can change the o2's at the track by .01 mv at a time and can also adjust timing based on weather conditions. You don't want to be pushing 31 degrees of timing in summer heat, just like you'd like a little more than 26 in the spring and fall cooler air.

What are you looking to do with your engine/car?

Hey Mag, did you have to do any kind of reprogramming to run the 24 pound injectors? Is stock 19 or 21?

I did not touch the programming for the Accel 24 lb'ers.. the car actually runs near stock calibrations now with them and the cam.
