Man, that setup is so nice looking, I'd do it just for the visual aspect! I hope the rebuilders don't F it up. Looks like I'll be in San Francisco this weekend, so I won't be able to check out that engine compartment or visit with GMEternal. I'll be getting a free ride on this! I'm sure you understand, right? I my job! I thought I was going to get to use a G-IV, but this will do nicely. Maybe I can come up there next weekend.

coouldn't you jsut use the FWD ones, and cut them off very high, and cusotmize them to go in about the same place as the stock Y-pipe.

As for modifyng the firewall, you think a plasma cutter and welding in metal plates to "box" in what you cut out would work?

Just somehtng I was thinking up if I were to ever do a small block conversion.

ok. so heres the thread that should end all the confusion on the whole exhaust manifold bit:

the exhaust ports are the EXACT SAME configuration and alignment as the 3.4 RWD iron heads. there isnt any difference. the DIFFERENCE: D-shaped exhaust ports. not a huge deal, just gotta do a little grinding with a dremel to make everything work.

the only trouble i am having, is that the spacing of the BOLTS is too far apart (top to bottom) .. the bottom bolt on the gen iii aluminum heads is farther down than the one on the 3.4 RWD iron heads. not a huge deal, im just gonna notch the bolt hole out on the exhaust manifolds and there i go. i could always get headers, but i dont have the money for that rite now. just the heads/intake will work. headers later.

Well, it's Thursday. What's the story, Russ? Is there a severely overpowered beast sitting there next to your car?

Russel what do you mean by chp in your sig?

chp = crank HP. or HP at the crankshaft, without the driveline on it.

basically when the 3.4 is rated at the factory, its rated on the engine, without anything else attached. thats why when you do a dyno, the numbers come out lower and you factor for driveline loss (such as tranny, driveshaft, gears, etc etc.) most manuals get a 15% driveline loss (average) -- i have a T5 transmission, manual(5spd), so i added back 15% to find out that my dyno (i got the car put on a real dynojet months back) that came to 140.2 HP / 183.6 TQ..

i got:
(you divide to go up, multiply to go down)
140.2 / .85 (15%) = 164.9 (rounded to the nearest 10th)
and:
183.6 / .85 (15%) = 216 (flat) -- so it looks like i miscalculated the first time LOL. o well no one is perfect, ill have to update my sig. anyway, so this is how it compares:

factory:
160 hp @4500 rpm
200 tq @3500 rpm

me:
164.9 hp @ 4500 rpm
216 tq @ 3500 rpm.

anyway, thats what it all means. hope that helps.

if you wanna see my dynosheet (i scanned it) --
