Well first think about it. They have your motor. Do you really want them to accidently not put it back together right?

so heres why im super pissed off rite now:
(long post)

<phone rings -- on call to Coast Motor Supply>
op: Coast Motor Supply
me: Yes, I was expecting a phone call from you guys today regarding a motor that is being rebuilt by you

op: ok. one moment please.
......(im on hold here)

ken: have you been helped?
me: umm, yes i think so, im trying to find out information on a motor i sent there to be rebuilt.

ken: whats your name?
me: Russell *****

ken: ok. hang on a second..yea, here it is. 3.4L OHV motor?
me: yea.
ken: ok hang on lemme check...<crackle of radio noise, some spanish being spoken> filipe? i need to check on a RBO #blah blah blah (i dont remember the damn number)
filipe: umm..i dunno bout that one, you need to ask richard if he orderd the pistons yet.
ken: ok.. well this is a rbo. rebuild...
filipe: i dunno anything about that, i just know what it says on that paper you have

me: um, sir you still there....
ken: yea.
me: ok. someone told me this engine would be done by today, and that the shortblock was done last friday. whassup with this.

ken:... hang on a second please.
me: ... sure.
.......(on hold again)
ken: russell? can i give ya a call back?
me: sure...what was your name again? and lemme give you my direct dial line..comes rite here..
ken: name is ken (almost sounded like kan)

anyway..that all was at 4:55pm (they close at 5)
4:57 the phone rings.

me: this is russell speaking.
ken: yea. ok well i talked to my guys here, and i dunno who told you today, but the pistons had to be special orderd from our supplier ( - WTF THEY ARE 3400 LA1 (Grand Am GT) PISTONS. special order?!?! !!)

me: i c. well. tell ya what. im not gonna yell at you cause im tired of yelling, and im in an office.
ken: i understand sir, the motor has been here a long time (in a stern voice.. **** you *******, you dont know how i feel)
me: no...just wait. its been there a long time, and you there have told me different times it would be ready. when now

ken: well it should be ready by friday, cause i talked to our shipping guy and he says they are coming in tomorrow
me: i see. and you can guarantee that it will be done friday?

ken: well i cant guarantee but i can say it will (WTF you A$$HOLE!)
me: i see. when can i call to verify that the pistons got there tomorrow?

ken: our UPS guy shows up around 11:30
me: so i can call at like 11:45-12:00 and they should be there right?

ken: yea. well. if they are here tomorrow then thats when they would be there.
(WTF YOU JUST SAID THEY WOULD BE THERE)
me: i see. (taking notes of all this) and question, i didnt catch the spelling of your name (making sure he didnt say "kan" earlier) --

ken: its KEN. k-e-n.
me: ah. ken. ok. i couldnt tell because of your accent. anyway. ill be calling you over there around 11:45 tomorrow. have a good day
ken: ok sir.

<click>

needless to say. this is the last straw. DO NOT DO ANY BUSINESS WITH COAST MOTOR SUPPLY.

they are idiots. a friend of mine has a car waiting to get looked at, a 3.4, and they wont look at it till friday. o wait, isnt that the time that they are going to finish my motor? how about that. im getting the feeling that im being shined on and im getting pissed off. if the motor is not done by friday night, and you hear in the news of an angry camaro owner going into CMS and beating the **** out of the owner, well..y'all know who did it.

-R

p.s. mutha****ers at coast can **** me.

Sorry to hear that. I was actually a little surprised to hear you sent it out in the first place. I mean, you could have done all the work yourself in far less time, minus the sleeve and bore which can be done in 1 day easily. Kragan Auto parts rents all the rebuilding tools. One of the hazards of being a Gunea Pig I guess. I'll bet next time, you could pop together an engine in record time. Where is Coast Motor Supply? I think GMEternal should have the meeting in their parking lot this week... during business hours ;) . Love the sig!

Yea i know. I could have rebuilt it myself. here is my problem, my dad is giving me a loan for this, and due to that -- he wnats to make sure that his money isnt wasted and that his garage is emptied out in a quick and efficient manner (cause im using his garage)

and yes i know its not looking like thats gonna happen.

anyway, as an update - called coast: 9/6/02 - they said pistons aren't in yet, and i had to ASK them to call me when they do come in. Apparently i've now pissed off two people that work at coast motor supply (life sucks get a helmet) and they've tossed me directly to their ordering guy.

Anyhow. it's probably gonna be a long time before i get my motor back, and my dad is gonna be superpissed.

ill let you all know when i finally DO get the engine back.

ARg. ok so since my dad is fronting me a loan, he paid for it -- and in talking to them "decided" that he wanted saturday delivery. o well.

anyone in the LA area wanna come by and help put the engine back in? LOL. anyone who has already done a swap would be more than welcome ;)

LOL. anyway. gonna be doing that all this weekend, maybe the next. im probably gonna need to fab up some stuff... like fuel lines. we'll have to see.

anyway. there is my best recent update.

ITS HERE ITS HERE ITS HERE :D :D :D

heheh
anyway. we got the engine yesterday morning, black and FRESH looking. it looks amazing!

links to pics: http://groups.aol.com/gmeternal/
look in the pics section, for a thing titled: Russell (Camwire) : 3.4L 1994 Camaro

the pics that work (if i havent fixed them by the time you read this) are the right ones. the car pics (if i have fixed them by the time you read this) are old. anyway..gives you all an idea of what things look like. cant wait to photograph the assembled engine.

sorry mike huff if i am stealing your color ideas heheh -- it looked so great on the 3800 engine of yours, i just had to replicate it on my 3.4 (which is now technically a 3.4/3400 hybrid )

i am kinda worried tho. :( my engine is supposed to be 9.5:1 CR. the spec card that came back, said 175psi for each cylinder. that, if divided by 1 ATM - 14.7.. comes to 11.9 :(

thats...a little high.

<sighs> i really have no way to check this until the engine is in the car and running and stuff i guess..i could probably do it on teh stand, my dad is a little pissed that im taking up his garage, but not much i can do.

anyway, ttyall later.

I HAVE NOT DROPPED OFF THE FACE OF THE PLANET!! :-D

lol.. just thot id post so you all know this is still happening..just..being slow. ive had to fabricate a few little things (had to make a little "alternator relcator" to push the alt. out of the way of the new valve covers (they sit farther out)

not a big deal, tensioner should help deal with this.

anyway. as for the exhaust manifolds, we notched the top bolt hole instead of the bottom (ran into some issues with the downpipe connection) and it works GREAT! :-D. the whole engine looks awesome. and i cant wait to get it up and running. unfortunately, i found out that i got the wrong lower/upper intake manifold when i got my 3400 upper intake in the mail, finding that the ports are WAAAAAAY bigger on the 3400 and the lower intake manifold bolts dont line up with the 3400 upper...<sigh> -- on top of that, fugged up the EGR re-location pipe (long story, ill provide it for anyone that wants to IM me at camwire when ya see me on, or email) -- have to reget a pipe and rebend it.

AAAAANNNNNNND... to add insult to injury, CMS (fuggers) managed to give me the engine back with (drumroll):

tada! a bent pushrod! seriously. its only slightly bent, but slightly is way too much. so im taking friday off so i can go yell at the ****ers.

anyway...theres my update. talk atcha all after next weekend..hopefully the car will be running, if not -- at least the engine will finally be in the car

O WOW O WOW O WOW :D :D :D

http://camaro.adwire.com/engine2/engine.html
:D

well... so i was wrong :(

god damn the engine is super-close to the car. like..1/16th of an inch between the cowl/plenum.

hrm. car is going to:
a)idle like it has a HUGE motor in it
b)just dent the crap outta the cowl the first time i run it.

seeing as how its alum vs. steel, i think the car will probably just run like i have solid motor mounts/HUGE motor in it

annnnnnnnyway. we finally got the thing in the car today. and i suggested to my dad that we test-fire it before we get the whole thing hooked up and find out it doesnt work (just to be safe -- that and i wanna hear the thing open header LOL)

surprisingly -- dad said "ok"! and then added -- "and ill even videotape it for ya"

!!!!!!!

so by tomorrow nite i should have video of what an open-header 3.4L sounds like with the aluminum heads.

:D im so excited i probably wont be able to sleep tonite.
