hey that thing looks pretty cool, but not sure it will work. I was looking under specifications says stuff about different setups it works with all had distributors.

Might work for the 3rd gen guys.

I too really want to start getting inot figuring the computer out... for what its worth I have done some stuff with VB.NET no ace or anything but relatively familiar with the program.

I doubt the programming in a OBD-I computer would be to hard to crack.

Hehehe you're gonna need to know more than just VB.NET to crack a PCM's software. It's nothing like Visual Basic.

I'm not a 3.4 (sorry guys 3.8) but I've been watching this post some and have been very interested in the real time programable ECU every since I got my car.

I've e-mailed Haltech about specifics of the E6GM (and am still awaiting response). If that unit does work then the average advertised internet price seems to be about $700 (worth it my opinion).

        [EDIT]
update for you 3.4 guys = I'm not sure what your ECM pinouts look like but the inputs for the E6GM are MAP sensor, Coolant Temp, Air Temp, Throttle Position, Primary Trigger, Oxygen Sensor, and a GP Analog. Seems way to simple for my 3.8 and probably so for your 3.4's

I would assume... its much more complicated the VB.net... that program does the work for you. But I am pretty quick to adapting to stuff when I am thrown in it. I am not looking for live info jsut bump the timing, maybe jsut a track only PCM.

I think the underlining theme here is what aspects of the stock ECU would you want to replace? I your just looking for something to replace throttle curves and ignition then I'm betting the Haltech module will do that for you at $700 (but then you'd have to figure out something to do with the 100 other sensors and inputs that the Haltech wouldn't understand. If your looking into a complete replacement the ECU and applicable wiring inputs, then your going to have to build a new ECU scratch. The Generic 683xx Development Board looks to be the most promising aspect but then your going to have some pretty illicit knowledge in the area of C/C++ and probably some assembler (I only know hardware so I'm guessing as to the software).

The motorola board appears to it has enough I/O connections to handle even the 3.8 pcm. The part where I go fuzy is the definition of the approximate 100 I/O's that are in the stock PCM's. Just looking at the wiring pinouts I can identify about half of them (and their uses) and probably could figure out a few more by a little searching, but how they affect the overall perofrmance curve of the car is a mathematical mystery to me and would require the assistance of "bigger brains" of this site and the more mathematical inclined to put it into usable code that would be compatible with the hardware.

Then after all that, to make it usuable, you'd have to have GUI interface (VB or VC++ anyone?) to make it usuable (okay, maybe not a GUI, but something that doesn't take a rocket scientist to follow.

Thats the idealist navy Electronics Tech in me speaking... :D
Not a problem, just a challenge...

PS = for those of you wanting to get a beater stock PCM to try this with, Trans Am Creations quoted me $50 for a used PCM from an equivalent 98 3.8 motor.

              Just FYI

Thanks for the info on the inputs. I wonder where I can find out the inputs/outputs of the OBD1 3.4 Computer.

I got my reply from Haltech about their ECU and its a no go. they even sent me a copy of the pin outs for their product and its just straight up not enough with our electronics. On to the from scratch idea...
