  • quick spring question?

will stock valve spring retainers keepers work with LS1 springs?

For a while the LS1 and 3.8 had the same springs the conical ones or what ever there called.
Usaly a straight sided stock spring is going to be about 1.25'' wide and the LS1 spring is about 1'' wide at the top.
They wont work unless you have the same stuff to start out with.
I don't think the LS1 and V6 sharing of the valve spring started untill some time in the 00's.

If they are the same spring than whats the point of upgrading to v8 valve springs when installing a cam?

They are the same size and shape, I don't know for sure if they are the same spring rates or not.

I "upgraded" because you can find almost brand new LS1 springs for a lot cheaper than new v6 springs if you know someone doing a cam swap in an LS1...

You can pick them off ebay cheap and get some new titanium retainers for about $125.
They might not be the same rate because of installed hight but other wise they could be the same part number (just installed differently) when on a V6.
