hehe, Its like a puzzle to some its just simple to others its hard =) Im sure I can do something easily that you find hard . And this is one of thoughs things where once uve done it and everything gets worked out you look back and go man he was right - I was just struggling with it =)
Just remember, your PCM harness (the one that is on top of the engien/trans) controls JUST the engine and the things the engine needs like fans, fuel pump, it gets VAT's signal from BCM, it gets starter signal from ignition module, and it gets IGN and +.. its a very basic wiring harness.
Your BODY and underhood harnesses control EVERYTHING else in the car like your lights, your radio, your dash, your gauges, your tail lights... why replac all of that when its alrady made for your car?? All that stuff WORKS if you unplug your engine COMPLETELY from the car... all of it works.
Just fix the new PCM harness to match up with you existing body harnesses.
If you guys are too leary about doing this yourself, contact speartech. You can send your PCM harness to him and he can modify it for you to be plug and play using your existiing body harnesses.
I can do the swap in about 3 days. If I had to re-do the entire body harnesses, I'd add another 7 days to that alone..
For you guys that are messing with all of those wires, you guys have BALLS! lol..
good luck

Keith, are you still using your original V6 gauge cluster?
I'm pretty much set in my mind that I'll be using a 99+ gauge cluster..custom fabing the dash harness alone to work just with the cluster sounds like a project. Then there's the whole issue with fueling..and where the signals are sent.
And regarding VATS, I'm sending my PCM to Ed Wright to program that out..along with the governor and a few other things.
Would you still say that it is easier to rewire the 94 dash harness with a 99 cluster and 99 PCM harness? I still think gutting it all and matching years would be easier.

I have a modified LS1 PCM harness and also modifed my fuel power lines just a BIT for my 99+ tank/pump.
If you are using a 99 engine/harness like me, just have your PCM harness rewired, use your existing cluster and just get a tach adapter, and you're set if you use your old fuel tank.

I am not going to replace the whole harness now from what you said, your right- I would have liked to send the harness out to get reworked but I dont want to A- wait to send it- 2 pay that much - and 3 disconnect and reconnect it =)
I agree with you on the swap, it was a 2 day event till I have to Wait for the vette fuel rail - and I was waiting for that before geting started on the wiring- and I had to pull from a donor car.
All Ive gotta do is figure out how Im gonna get the steering shaft hooked up without droping out the motor and tranny again- and figure out the wiring, your input in very apreciated

I bought a 99+ plastic fuel tank, pump, sending unit, lines etc..I also changed my original 110 MPH V6 cluster to the LT1 150 MPH cluster a few months ago.
If I go ahead with the dash/cluster swap (99+ dash/cluster) (which I will,,lol) in that case can I still rewire my 94 dash harness to work with the new cluster? Or would I be forced to rewire everything as I originally planned to do?

To get the steering linkage on, put it on the steering shaft and pound it way up with a hammer, then you should be able to wiggle it onto the steering rack.. and then pound it back down with the hammer. I've done it MANY times without droppign the k-member... wd-40 is your friend.
If you wire in a 99+ cluster, get a 99+ gauge cluster.
I'd keep your dash harness, use the LT1 cluster, and use your old sending unit in your orig tank and fab it up to work in your new plastic tank.. It takes some creative engineering but hey, i was able to do it! I cut away some of the plastic fuel pump housing to fit the new sensor on it embedded so I could get the entire assembly in the tank (i even cut a pinch of the tank's ring away to fit it in).... and I zip tied it to the huge assembly as well with 2 big zip ties..

Dude, you're from chicago... if you need I can stop by for a few when you have both tanks out of the car and pump assemblys removed from the tank to show you what I am talkign about if you want to do it that way.

Hey thanks for the offer...I may take you up on that when I get that far in.
I'm still up in the air about the whole wiring issue. I'm pretty much being stubborn and going to change out the entire dash just to fit the 99 gauge cluster. Yeah it's hitting me in the wallet more and on the clock,,but it's what I'd like to do. I like the look of the LS1 gauges..plus I think it would just help out a lot more in the wiring process.
