  • Comp Cam Extr. 4X4 cam potential.

Are the gains listed for the comp cams extreme 4x4 cam (216 Intake Duration, 216 Exhaust Duration, 112 Lobe Sep. Angle, 108 Intake Centerline. 507 lift on both valves) realistic.

    (here)

Has anyone seen results near or close to these #'s?

What supporting mods would you think would be neccessary to achieve these numbers.

Almost sounds too good to be true.

    Thoughts...........

Upgrade the springs, retainers, pushrods, lifters, rockers( to full rollers), get P&P'd heads, and custom tuning. That's a start you might want to upgrade the shortblock to one equal to the Intense 9.5 to 1 race ready shortblock. Then of course getting the power to the ground is another bundle of mods to itself.. :D

hmmm i imagined that the stock flow of our heads might protest to those numbers......

I figured that custom programming would be needed as well?

Timbo...what #'s would you guess this cam would likely produce giving without short block mods and P&P?

The removed balance shaft on the Intense block would help alot toward getting to that goal. It would be somewhere between 240 and 250 to the wheels. Hmm on stock heads & shortblock some where between 220-230 to the wheels.

that power graph was based on optimum tuning for thhe cam, and stock everything else. these were also flywheel hp numbers, so figure in 15-20% driveline loss. this means around 220 to 234 rwhp. That hp number can easliy be achieved w/ full intake(up to the heads, including the TB/MAF and intake manifolds), full exhaust(headers, cut-out, cat, and cat-back), tuning, and ignition mods. add in this cam after all that, and ur car will be making some serious power. add heads on top of that, and I wouldn't be suprised if ur running w/ LS1's at that point, if u can get the power to the ground efficiently.

Hmm. I'm at about 230rwhp with stock TB, stock intake, and stock heads, no tuning, stock ignition (just TR6's and plug wires). I do however have a full exhaust and a 5 speed tranny which helps. That's a very similar camshaft to mine, just a bit less duration and lift. 220's is VERY feasible at the wheels if put into a full bolt-on 5 speed car.

I also like this grind. I would like to try it on the 111lsa like ZZP did. That should make for a nice cam. OneQuickV6 Didnt i sell you my 218/218 cam? Anyways if your running 230 to the wheels your doing good.

Yea Preston, I bought it from you. Looks like next week I am going to order a bigger 4x4 cam from Comp. I am also about to port/polish my heads and intakes and get a nice valve job done, probably stick with stock valve size.

I haven't decided yet. I've been talking to a few reps at Comp, and none of them are helping. I will find one who knows this motor though (if anyone has a suggestion of who I should be talking to, please advise!), and it will be at least 220 intake duration, possibly a bit more. Tuning will be released shortly, and I believe the norm for the V6 cams is going to get larger:)

The only mods that would used with this cam would be tuning. I may go ahead a do a monir home P&P but I am not sure.... P&P doesn't scare me just the funds available. Very very very little of my budget gets to go to my baby.... :(
