  • P&P Intakes with SSM heads, stock cam

So I drove my car for the first time yesterday. I have P&P my own intakes with a dremel and hours of work. I installed the SSM heads with 3 angle valve job and milled 20 thousandths. I also installed RKSPORT headers and y pipe. I took the car out for a test drive with the new mods. I am running streight out of the Y pipe. Car is running like a RAPED APE. It really does. I can feel more power. But only problem: Car ran for about 5 min. before blowing a driver side head gasket. GRR!!!!!! so now I get to rip apart the engine down to the block again and replace head gaskets. Maybe this time I can get it right.

I am thinking this job will be alot easier the 2nd time around. The 1st time it was a PITA because I didnt know what I was doing. Now I am more firmiliar with the job so it should be easier.

And if your asking HOW how did the head gasket blow. I think I have a answer for that also. The TQ wrench I used was one I barrowed from my buddy. I had these gasket surface to mirror finish and the head bolts were Torqued so spec fo sheezy. But the TQ wrench is miscalibrated. I came to find out the TQ wrench was wrong making all the bolts I torqued off. Now I will be buying a new TQ wrench and trying this again. I was angry but now, I guess I will just take my lumps and try again this weekend.

    Wish me luck.

I was also thinking maybe its time to throw a cam in it this time around so I dont have to do this job again.

I second the CAM idea P...What did Rick say? Or did you even ask him about it?

I'm envious.. sooo envious.. wish I could afford a complete super six setup.. of course since I don't even have intake or exhaust that would have to be first..

Havent talked to rick yet. He fled to Wendover for the weekend. I will probly cruise down to his shop and talk to him tonight. You know cody im not even sure If I want to ask him to have one of his guys work on my car. I may just ask him for wholesale price on a new gasket kit and head bolts. I have done this job one time myself. I think the problem may have been the tools and my second man help(Bryan). I think the second time around I can get things right. And I talked to my auncle who is a mechanic and he said he would help me with it maybe this weekend. I told him I would be able to tear it down if he would just come over to help me put it all back together. So I think I will just go this route. Im pretty sure between myself the right tools and good help I can get it right this time. Yes its a PITA and Im not looking forward to doing it but I dont want to ask Rick and then have him tell me I need to pay his *** for having one of his guys looking at it. If he offers and says he wont charge me then I will let him take care of it. But if not I will be working on this with my auncle.

Would you think if I was leaking small amounts of coolant out of the head that I would have leaked coolant into the cylenders?
