  • Spun rod bearing!! Need help!!

Ripped my engine apart today. My oil pressure had dropped and I heard a tapping so i ripped the oil pan off and discovered that i had spun the #1 cylinder, connnecting rod bearing. It ruined my crank and bearings! So no im debating on whether to buy a new motor, maybe any LS1, or try to find a new crank or v6. So if anyone has a motor laying around they're not using, let me know!!

i bet some trash got down into the motor when you were doing the swap, you can probably save the crank thats in the car, just get the crank ground, and buy some +.010 bearings...

a spun bearing is when the little grooves in the block or on the bearing give out and the bearing "spins" in the rod or the block, it tears up the crank and normally if you spin a main bearing the block has to be align bored...

Take it to the machine shop.... they might be able to fix that. However, for the price of maching you could prob. just replace the entire bottom end of the motor with a junkyard 3.8.

When life gives you lemons make lemonade right. Like you mentioned, now you have a perfect excuse to swap in a LS1.

I'd love to, but i dont have 4000.00 to throw into a new motor, tranny, crossmember, pmc, harness, plus everything else i need. Unless you know of a cheaper place to get one!!

Used 3.8 engines are cheap. Go that route, or um get a zzp stroker kit. They are gonna regrind the crank anyways.

1500 is a lot for a stroker kit that only going to give me another 20ish hp, plus i cant use nitrous or boost w/ it.

You should be alright as long as you don't spray a 150 shot. But then again anytime you juice you are risking gernading anyways. But based on ZZP's results you would be fine as long as you did not spray more than 100 shot.

Get a used crank with no damage cut/polished and put new rings and bearings in the engine. No reason to replace the entire bottom end....just fix what broke. Shouldn't cost much.

For the amount of work it would take to replace the crank and rebuild the bottom end of the motor, it would be cheaper and faster to just throw in a junk yard motor.
