• Another cam question

I know people ask this all the time but from what I'm getting everyone wants a different cam. I'm wondering what cam I should get. I've read about that new VS cam but no one really knows how well it does. What about the COMPcams custom grind? Well anyways I'll tell you what I'm looking for and tell me what you recommend. I want to stay with all stock heads, idle doesn't matter at all as long as it still runs, Occasional nitrous use but going for N/A gains. My only mods are a lid and nitrous and will eventually be getting exhaust. I've decided I'm not going to sell this car, ever, so more mods will come eventually. I've been contemplating ditching the nitrous and going for heads but haven't decided (or found the money).

well in my not so professional opinion I wouldn't have a cam without head work.. but that's just me.. though I wouldn't do anything like that till I had all the basic bolt-ons done.. (full intake and exhaust).. of course I would also have a maft+ and some kind of monitoring software to go along with head work and cam so I could do some tuning..

Personally I wouldn't have thought to do a cam either, but after reading the post on the VS cam it got me thinking. I have an oil leak which is supposedly my lower intake manifold and since I'm going to have everything from my manifold up ripped off anyways I figured I would put the cam in now instead of waiting and ripping the engine apart again. But head work isn't in the remote near future so unless I should really have head work I would like to do a cam. Also I would agree that I should have exhaust but since I'm having this work done in the very near future I want to do the cam now. A cat-back is in site and headers and cat down the road. Distant future will probably include heads but not until I'm out of college.

If you are ordering the VS cam through zzperformance they are out of stock. And they dont know when they will be getting these in. Comp cams can customer grind a cam for you but it will be 3-4 weeks out.

I had got my car as a recovered theft and it took a bunch of work to get it running and when I finally did, it had a cracked head bolt. Luckly my dad had a lift so we dropped the engine out and pulled the heads. Anyway my dad said well while we got it apart why dont we put a cam in it. We called comp and they really didnt have a cam for my car, so we had them custom grind it, and make it computer compatible. I love it. What Im trying to say with all this is to call comp and talk to them. Im sure u would be happy with a custom grind. I know I am.

You'll be fine not porting the heads.
Either the VS cam or the Comp 206/212 would work fine... you'll make good power gains either way. I prefer the comp 206/212 since its milder on the exhaust - supplies a substantial amount of power too with the split duration. Its a good cam and it'll definetly idle healthy
