• new cam for the rebuild

ok well i am looking at cams now that i got the heads and intakes back

i want a custom grind but i have not flow #'s cause they could not get a good read cause the machine is for v8's i am trying to find a place to do the flow #'s so i can go with a custom cam but in the mean time i have found two i am looking at by crower and can't decide

    108 ls .226/.234 .470/.492 w/ 1.5 ratio(i will be running 1.6 roller rockers)

this cam's power range is 2200-6200 with a 6500 redline it will make good power but i don't want to waste peak hp being that i shift at about 5600 but it will still make good hp up top

    112ls 212/218@.050 .435/.449w/ 1.5 rocker ratio i will be running 1.6

power range is 2k-5k with redline of 6k which all power will be obtainable but will it crap out at the end will i get more power out of the other cam this is my question to you guru's

all mods are listed on my website thanks for the help

any suggestions on the custom cam i will have

Hey no problem.. sorry about the confusion..

          Lets go slow..

Your car redlines at 6000 RPM's right? Your automatic shifts a little below that correct?

Do you plan to change those at all?

i would like to i sent tiago a extra pcm i bought but he has been real busy and my rebuild is hopefully starting to wrap up and it's time to order a cam so i don't want to count on being able to change those settings i did convert my tranny to a cable tranny so it seems to shift at more like 5700 now but that is kinda irrelevant i suppose so no

BTW, I STRONGLY prefer it when people ask questions HERE instead of e-mailing me.. No offense, but its hard for me to give good attention to my e-mails when I'm swamped at work..

On here we can all look at the problem and as a group work toward an ideal solution.

No need to post directly to me.. post for the group here..

THere has been a TON of GREAT replies here in advanced tech the past few weeks.. I am VERY impressed and VERY proud with all those who have been helping answer questions here. It really makes me happy to see more in depth advanced tech topic discussions.

So lets figure out what works for you.....

If your going to shift at 5700 RPM's, I suggest going with the smaller cam. You'll have more useable power. It will be a better power curve to match your setup.

If you have a 2800 RPM converter and shift at 5700 RPM's,... thats basically where you want your powerband.. YOu are looking for power between 2800 and 5700 RPM's...

And even more specifically... when you shift, say your RPM's come down to 4000... You really want a power band between 4000 and 5700 RPM's..

If you throw in a big ole honkin cam that makes great power between 5000 and 6500 RPM's, its not right for your application. YOu won't be using much of that cams power band.. so much of it is wasted.. and the part you ARE using would be less powerful than the cam that is matched for your application.

                  How's this?

that was my exact line of thinking sometimes i don't speak it well lol yes the other cam is bigger and will make more hp but i can't use it so the other cam would be better

i actually never drop below 3200 @ wot so 3200-5700 on crower site they have a cam kit (pushrods hydraulic lifters guideplates etc.) i called yesterday to confirm it was non roller all hydraulic and i asked if the pushrods they sent would work cause i am running 1.6 full roller rockers and the set up on the site says 1.5 he told me the pushrods would still work fine does that sound right?
