i keep calling places asking them if they sell used pcms from a 97 camaro with y87. they ask me if i have the number off of my old one--which i don't know--so that they can get me one. the problem is they can't tell the y87 ones from the regular ones, do you guys know what the difference is so that i can tell them?

also, they keep telling me that you have to take the pcm into the dealership to get it reprogrammed--they say you can't just buy a pcm and just plug it in--it has to be reprogrammed. can you guys enlighten me?

You want a PCM from a 97 V6 fbody with option code Y87.

They will tell you it wont match your BCM blah blah, just say.. Hey jerky, send me the damn PCM kapish?

It will plug right in and work fine. No you won't have to go to a dealer.

Yes your VIN will be different though, its stored on the PCM.. so you'll just have the VIN from the old car.. no biggie.

your PCM's odo will read differently however the one you see in the dash is based off of the BCM which will not change.

          I'm having the same problem getting a M5 2000 PCM (3.23 gearing...)

I really dislike the inability to run a 160° stat and would gladly swap with any 2000 M5 owner who loves his 195/180.

That whole "send us your old numbers thing" sucks - Ive had that problem 3x so far!
