Full roller 3.4L, can it be done, and if so, which parts and where are they available?

I looked into this years ago and was told by some of the cam companies that because of the way the 60 degree V6 blocks are setup oil supply wise, if you put roller lifters in them they would burn up relativly quickly(~10,000 miles or less I think is what they said). I'm in the process of building up an engine now and I'm going to use roller rockers, but unless you do some fancy oil rework inside the block then I'd steer away from roller lifters. But roller rockers work just fine. That is if you use the narrow body ones. Crane makes a set of their gold rollers that work.

Roller rockers are about the only way you can go. Can't do roller lifters with the 3.4L V6

Crap. Well, I guess I'll stick with the 3.8L.

I have a set of the 1.6 Gold Racers from that 3.4L I built if anyone is interested. I'll make you a good deal. Several people over at 60degreeV6 have installed roller cams in their 3.1s. What they don't tell you up front is that the oil passages in the fwd blocks are different than the rwd blocks. The 3100 and 3400 in the fwd cars do come with roller cams in them. I think they are the 93 and newer engines.

Those roller lifters won't work with our engines though. They will fit, yes, but will not receive enough oil to hold up.

Those roller rockers on jegs are mechnical lifters, not hydr. Is there a reason mechanical lifters could survive on the same oil supply while hydr could not?

Hydraulic lifters require more oil than mechanical (solid) lifters.

Studly, my point about the the fwd and rwd blocks is that they are different regarding oil passages and flow. I guess I am not sure what you mean stating the obvious that xx00 engines weren't around in 1980. I was referring to the fwd versions of the 3.1 and 3.4, not the 3100 and 3400. Those roller rockers are listed in my ebay store.

cuz they don't need to be pumped up, right? But why would there be more oil getting to the roller itself? Are there oil passages from the lifter bore wall down to the roller?

With non-roller lifters, oil doesn't push past the lifter as easily b/c there is a solid mating surface between the lifter and its bore. With rollers, when the lifter is pushed up, more oil goes by the lifter b/c the rollers and lifter don't contact all of the circular surface of the bore.
