• to be or not to be(NA)

having a hard time deciding weither or no to start sucking the bottle or go the NA root and get a good cam/rocker combo.

N20 is cheaper but the risk of messing up is high.
NA would be there all the time and i wont have to change the plugs every 2-3 weeks

i vote n/a, its more of a challenge
anybody can strap nitrous on and make it fast, go the harder way, and as you pointed out, less of a risk and the powers ALWAYS there unlike a 10 second nitrous boost

Yeah, go NA, don't give your car a drug habit ;)

I agree with prev. poster about challenge and satisfaction that comes from a fast NA v6..

I'd have to agree. When exactly are you going to be using nitrous? At the track? When you race someone? What if you race at a stoplight, then the next one, then the next? I think it would suck deciding which cars to waste N2O on and which to just race N/A, that's why I'd prefer to have a car that is consistantly quick (or at least decently so), so you can race from stop light to stop light without wasting entire bottles of money. Nitrous may be cheaper, but it's also "cheaper" in terms of quality. Cams and rockers won't be cheap, but you'll thank yourself in the long run.

ok. so heres where i disagree with everyone on this topic.

its not a yes or no choice, its really a matter of preference. and which do you prefer? do you want the n/a power - yes its going to be difficult and it'll take research and planning to get a good cam / head / intake combo and figure out what exactly to do.. and its much easier to just get the nitrous kit, but then you only have it till the bottle runs out, and -- you have to make sure that you have the right equipment - safety switches etc etc.

so instead of telling you what i think you should do - because again its really your decision - im gonna tell you what im doing, and you can decide if this sounds like a good idea.

i researched the whole n/a vs nitrous oxide area. looked into things, decided on things. and i decided that i liked the idea of the power being there all the time, but couldnt really dismiss the nitrous oxide - the instant extra boost was interesting to me, so ive decided to build my car up N/A first, then get a small shot. maybe a 50-75, and hook it up just to play around with..get some times and see where i come out at. then after im done, ill hop it up, maybe forced induction, but the nitrous will never be a central focus for my car. all in all -- i think its great that some people (like james for instance) make their cars run fast on nitrous. i think its cool to see that arena being explored like it is, but i dont want to join into it.

so there it is. thats my reasoning, read it and decide for yourself what you think is the best way to go. dont let anyone tell you what to do with your car, rather use their comments as counsel to see why something is good/bad... but of course, im sure you already thot of that ;)

anyway. happy motoring. hope you get where you wanna go. and in speed/style.

I'm going to say one of my favorite quotes...

"It makes no sense to build a naturally aspirated engine if what you are looking for is good power output."

What this is really refering to is forced induction through superchargers...

I agree with Russell on the preference issue. All it comes down to is do you want to run nitrous oxide or not?

Just like anybody can hook up a blower and go fast..

Who has the fastest N/A car here?? Magnus ran what 13.5ish NA which is awsome.. Thats with heads cam intake and let me know if I am forgetting anything.. I know James went 12.4ish on a stock motor with a 100-120 shot right?? Why dont you strap a N20 kit on it now and save up for Heads cam intake forged itnernals.. you can go fast now and really go fast later.. Put a 50-75 shot on your car and have fun. for 500.00 dollars you will have a 13 second car!!
