• quick question

Ok a few months ago I put a K&N air filter in my 02 firebird I also took off the stock lid and replaced it with a wisper lid. Sence then whenever I start my car it idels really rough, When I give it gas it seems to go away and it only happens at start up. I took it to the shop and had it all checked over and they told me that it may be from the higher flow air filter. Now I have had a 94 firebird in the past with a K&N air filter and had no trouble with it. Just wanted to know if anyone here has this prob or if it's just me. Also wanted to ask if anyone knows what kind of rattling may be coming from my car. When I start it up and give it gas it seems to have a rattle. Also I took that in to the shop and had it checked over they couldn't find anything wrong. But it sounds like a loose heat shield or spark knock or something. The guy at the shop told me it could be a heat sheild and that at lower rpms I dont hear it but higher rpms that it will do it. I still have the stock exhuast but plan on getting a magnaflow high flow cat and cat back system soon. I'm wondering if I should take my heat shields off when I get that done or leave them on to try to get rid of that rattle. It doesnt seem to do anything performance wise but is annoying.......

    Thanks all

    Brian

Well... It depends on where the rattle is coming from.

If you sit in there and it sounds like it's coming from near your cat, it's the heat shield. go ahead and take it off or cut it to enlarge the hole so whatever is hitting will just hit air.

If it's coming from the engine compartment, make sure that the new lid is on tight and that the air filter also fits properly. Also, if you haven't checked your plugs for a while, go ahead and check them and change out if necessary.

If none of that works, just get a 10 MM socket wrench out and just start tightening every bolt you can find

I have new plugs but didn't change the wires yet. I'm going to be getting MSD wires A.S.A.P. Maybe I'll try that first b4 I do anything else.

      Thanks Farris
