• Lt1/Ls1 swap into OLD Trans am

Hi i'm new to these forums and was wondering if I could put a Lt1 or a Ls1 into my 1984 Trans am. It has aready had 1 swap so the current engine is a 5.0 litre 305 v8. I was hoping to put in a Lt1 for more power.

1. Would the Power gains be very significant?
2. How much would this kind of swap cost?
3. It uses a 4 speed automatic tranny. Would I have to get a new one to deal with the power?
4. What parts do I need to do a full engine swap?

Thank you for your time.

I'm sure you would gain a nice amount of power.

I'd expect your swap for an LT1 to cost maybe 3-4K.

You will need custom motor mounts, k-member, tranny mounts.

You will need a complete engine/tranny/pcm and other misc hardware.

personally, i would dump the money into something much more powerful, you could get a complete 383 stroker motor for alil less than the cost of a new LS1. but if ya really wanted some balls, id go to GM and get the 501 Marine engine, it costs bout 2500 complete, and is a 501, only reason its a marine engine is cuz it wont pass emissions heh

That 383 sounds pretty good. Can you give me a link to some info about it. The engne needs to pass emissions. Or be made to when smog comes around.

www.speedomotive.com
500 HP 383 Stroker
short block - $2150
long block - $3550
complete - $4050

then get a TH350 for behind it, and boom, youve got yourself an 11 second wonder.

or ya could build one from scratch

I don't think i'm up yobuilding a engine from scratch. Ive emailed th company and asked them about the legality of the engine for ca emissions. If it is I would seriously consider it. Can't argue with 500 tourqe and 540 hp.

if it wont meet emissions, im positive that you can change the timing on it to be able to meet emissions standards.
