  • better 3.4 cam?

i have it to 3 cams

    duration 226-236
    lift 463-474
    lob sep 112

    228-228
    465-465
    110

    195-205
    405-427
    112

i would like fairly high gains but not a really hard idle. also the lift is with 1.5 rockers. when i do this i have the opnition of staying with 1.5 or going to 1.6. what should i do and how big of a gain can i expect?
the smaller cam is also like $50 cheaper

    thx in advance

the middle one would be best for a na motor, but it would need some head porting and the compression rased a bit....

the bottom one would be best for just adding a cam

25 or more, the stock cam in the 3.4 is garbage

ok before you go run out and buy a camshaft -- are any of these cams solid by chance? (solid flat tappet)

ie. who makes the cams and what are their part #'s. if they are crane cams, then you cannot use any of their cams except for the 2020 and 2030 . the solid lifter camshafts lack the lobe to activate the cam sensor in the 3.4L engine.

i/tiago have already looked into it. only a few cams can be used with the 3.4L engine. has to have SFI capability. (little tab at the front of the cam, attached to the first bearing journal)

                well..i would ask them if they work in a 1993-1995 3.4L F-body.

just to make sure (the comp cams one will for sure...but dunno bout the Lunati)

I know the bigger lunati has the sensor(its the cam Josh York has in his car)

the smaller one should as well, but ya may want to double check (dive ammp an email and he should beable to tell you)

The Lunati cam is a great one. I have it in my car, but the 110 LSA may be a little too much for you. If you would like a 112 LSA for a little better idle, I can do that too. With the 110 LSA, my engine had too much idle lope and I ended up drilling the throttle plate. Otherwise, the power band is great and it produces a lot of power. I am running it with the Crane Gold Race full roller rockers and it's an awesome setup.

How much of a power difference is there between the 110 LSA and 112 LSA?

I would definitely suggest porting and polishing the heads. When you have the heads P&P'ed, have the place get flow numbers on them. From those numbers, I can put together some numbers for a custom grind cam for you. The three cams that you listed may not be the best for your application. The cam that we mentioned (with the .465" lift) was the best setup for my application with my modifications, but it may not be the best for yours.
As far as compression ratio; When you get the heads worked on, they will resurface the mating area where the heads meet the block. When they do this, it will raise the compression slightly...very slightly. Raising your compression really doesn't offer too much power gain.
I would also suggest getting a set of rocker arms with it. I have a set of used Comp roller tipped rocker arms here (1.6:1 ratio) that I took off to put the Crane full rollers on. If you are interested in these, drop me an E-mail and I will figure out a good price for you.
When you do the heads, it would be a good idea to get the lower intake done too. I have a few sets of heads and a few lower intakes for the 3.4L V6 here if you would like to look into a package deal on the heads/cam/intake manifold.

There is almost no power difference between a 110 and a 112 LSA. I don't know exactly what the difference is, but I will look into it tomorrow when I get back in the office.

hey viper.. i have a few questions..ive got a 3.4L running nitrous (60-75 hp shot) , cai, flowmaster catback, etc. I am looking to do a cam. while i have the motor tore down, i plan on porting the upper and lower intakes, but i dont want to get into any head porting. Can you give me a good recommendation as far as what all options you could offer me? people above have said that the LUNATI-06312 s best for "just ading a cam. would that provide a good performance boost? would i be beter off goin with the 1.6 : rockers on that too? im not really concerned how the car acts, as its not exactly a daily driver, i just want the most power gain i can get without having to port the heads. if you could reply back asap, id appreciate it. I want to get the cam ordered as soon as i find out what would be a good combo.

                              thanks

also, would it be a good idea to get a set of valve springs and do those while im at it? if i went with new springs, am i going to need to get new retainers and locks as well?
