  • Whose Heads to Get?

I blew my head gaskets off my car and since its torn down I want to get a set of heads. I have $1250 to spend.

    Here are my mods

Whisper Lid, Filter, SLP Smooth Bellow (no air silencers)
    Ed Wright Tuning
    TR55 NGK Plugs
    MSD 8.5 Wires
    Pace Setter headers
    2 1/2 true duals through Borla XR1's
    ZZP GT2 Camshaft
    Comp Cams 105lb Springs
    ZZP Retainers
    Comp Pushrods and Lifters
No Egr, MAF screen, or cats
    CAI

    CAM Specs:
    Intake Exhaust
    Duration 265 265
    Duration @ .050 216 216
    Valve Lift .507 .507
    Lobe Sep. - 111

I may go bigger after stall.

I'll be stalling the car later on, have Transgo shift kit but will buy a cooler before it goes in.

I'm looking at ZZPerformance, Super Six Motor Sports, and Abbott Heads.

I talked with SSM. Good price but it will take 2 weeks and this is my daily driver and I need them quicker than that.

ZZperfomance I've heard good things about their stage 2 heads and looks like the stock them also good price. Hvae done business with them in past good guys.

Abbott - havent got ahold of anyone yet. I see wickedv6 has some awesome times. But their flow numbers didnt match up with SSM. Maybe different testing, IDK. Prices were high though. I can only afford $1250.

Intense - To expensive out of picture

Whose the best? I'm leaning towards ZZP.

Doesn't he have any cores? In the past he would always send you some new heads, then you'd send back your current ones for a core charge.

That's still a pretty good time. Most places will take about that long to get them out. I waited over a month because he was really backed up.

Personally, I'd stick with either SSM or Abbott. They've got alot of experience doing V6 F-Bodies. ZZP's only been doing heads for a short while now, with not near as much experience as SSM or Abbott.

the guys at abbott really know what theyre doing. theyre good guys...if u have the money id go there....check the for sale forums and ebay. you can usually find a set of head for around 100-150 bucks. send those out to get P&P'd and put them on when u get them back. then sell the unported heads that were on your car. that way there is as little down time as possible

Jordan...without a doubt I can recommend Abbott for top quality work and service...we'll be ordering a second set of heads from them shortly for a recently acquired '02 Firebird...in the meantime I have a set of SSM heads (used for 6 months) and an Abbott ported lower intake manifold (unused) for sale...$600 plus shipping...Richard

It said on their website somewhere once where they send them.

                from their website:

                FastBikes USA

For my head work and modifications that require advanced techniques to achieve maximum flow I turn to long time friend Gary Geukes owner of Fastbikes USA. He is one of the country's best when it comes to doing cylinder heads and his work can be found on many of the top racers around the country.

When I need to squeeze that last bit of performance out of a product or get advice on airflow Gary is the man I turn to. He has over 20 years of experience in his field and the equipment to test any product I bring to him.

I'm going to send them out to SSM monday morning. Abbott is to expensive, it may be worth it but I dont have the money.

I already have my stock heads off and I'm having to wait atleast a week on all my new bolts and gaskets anyways so I'm just going to send him my heads I have now.

I'll have to wait for the ported intakes and TB, no money right now.

We've got two sets of core heads and one intake for 95-98 and one intake for 99+ but we're backed up at the moment and there is no way we could have them out in two weeks.
