• co2 intake cooling?

i was playing paintball the other day when a newbie was wondering why his gun was cold after he got done playing. i knew why, but i had never thought of it like this, here it goes,

rig up some sort of chamber for the co2 to expand in the intake pipe, when co2 expands, it gets very cold, thus cooling the air around it, and ofcourse, dumping the co2 outside the intake.

would this produce any real gains.

im guessing this would be used in a way like nitrous, for a quick burst.

ive co2 used to spray intercoolers on turboed cars, but never this way.

If you're interested in these sorts of things you need to take some college physics .

Yes, it got cold, but the amount of C02 expansion required to cool the metal intake of a V6 and keep it chilled is not feasible.

This is similar to the idea of using a freon phase change pump system to cool incoming air... basically a/c the air. There are MANY physics no-nos in this kind of thinking...

im taking college physics this comming year, ya i know that it would take a massive ammount of co2, but say it could be done, would it make a difference?
also, i was using it to cool the incomming air not the manafold or tb

CryO2 System

It's been discussed and created!

(Great Idea Though!!! Keep up the creativity!)

i knew about the cryo2, that is what i was refering to in my first post. but i didnt know about the intake system, does it really work though?

Suppesedly. I e-mailed DEI about it several months ago (before they had pricing posted) and they claimed that it'll ice over the intake piping surround there "cryo bulb." I've thought about it several times, the theory sounds feasible but I'm hoping to actually somebody with one one day, or see some dyno charts or something. It's like $700 for the complete set of items - money that could get spent on a more proven agent like N20!!!

dont forget at one time N2O was a new thing.. and O2 injection, and unleaded fuel... and the internal combustion engine... lol

WORD!!!

It seems like a decent idea for an improver but more like a bolt-on for bolt-ons to me. I can't knock someone trying it, but it seems as if there are better things to do first. But hey, if someone does try it, let us know how it goes! I've thought about it myself, might still do it, just later...

Nitrous was a new thing in 1924...

Unleaded Fuel? come on... I love leaded. We just can't run it due to emissions now...

but when did it first come into use commonly on the street.. people started looking twards it after realizing that O2 injection was in theory a good idea, but due to all the heat that was produced it was impractical.

as far as fluids and thermodynamics go.. i know my fair share
, yes using co2 to cool the intake is impractical.. i compleetly agree , but if you had a way to cool the intake with a compressed gas yes it would be worth it... kinda like icing an intake while staging at the track.. or packing it with dry ice
