  • Checking Hydraulic Lifters.

Hey guys, for anyone who has messed with our lifters I have a question.

I went out to my garage to check my old lifters to see if they were bad (they made noise). They have been out of the car for a year now, so they are bled out, but oily.

I stuck a pushrod in them and none of them move at all. I don't know how much force it takes, but they won't compress. I took the retainer clips off of a few of them and found that some of them will compress and then re-rise when I take the pushrod off. Others wont move at all. Same situation occurs when I fill them with oil.

Which is good and which is bad?
Why won't some of them move at all?
    Thanks.

best way to check them is take them out soak them in oil overnight, then use a vise they should compress easily if not they are no good.
