350 engine swap

A fellow co-worker is selling her '77 Nova for 600 bux and i was wondering if it would be poss. to swap the 350 into the camaro and what other parts would i need?
I really don't kno alot about engines so dont bust on me if this is a stupid question.

You will need custom mounts made and a different tranny as well as a custom lenght driveshaft. You will also run into the problem of hood clearnece as well as cowl clearence because of the distributer

But to further answer your question, yes, it can and has been done. Probably as cheap or cheaper than alot of people have been spending on swapping in an LS1.

yes its possible, but requires new trans, radiator, motor mount relocation, wiring harness (if going FI) hoses mechanical gauges...you can swap it, its just a genuine PITA

That and depending on what model year the 350 is, it's not worth it. Hell, IROC Camaros of the late 80's only had 190 hp. It's lots heavier too, and the wiring would be a nightmare. Keep your 3800. [img]smile.gif[/img]

???? Most of the guys I know running the older 350ci motors in trucks and cars are pushing over 400hp NA, with alot of room to grow. Show me the 3800 series 2 that has done that for under $4000 even.

Where have you been? In 77, the 350 with it's horrible "feedback carb" and loads of emmissions equipment barely made 150 hp in stock form. Still made good torque, but it was by no means a "strong" engine.

But any 350 long block from even a parts store, take it to the machine shop for a little work, get heads, a big cam, a nice stall, gears, intake manifold, and I see them all the time put down 400HP. I didn't ever say a '77 350. If you've never seen a mildly modded 350 carb'd motor make 400 HP NA, get off the internet and go to the racetrack.

Now im thinking of buying the car but not swapping engines. The car is in good shape and has 60,xxx miles on it. It needs 40$ worth of body work and a paint job. I think it would make a good project car.

I was referring to the original post that said a 77 nova 350. Also, the original poster did not mention any modifications. I was stating that a STOCK 350 in 1977 barely made 150 hp.
