There's a slight ticking I'm hearing from my engine, and I'm leaning toward lifter as the source of it. It's a very faint tick, but it drives me insane. Do you guys think it would be worth it to change the lifters myself, or should I pay someone to do it? I really don't want to break it down to the heads, looks like it would be a real PITA, how much would you guys think labor would cost to replace lifters/rocker arms? Thanks.

Replacing the lifters is not a bad task at all. If thats what the problem is. I would suggest doing it yourself. there really not too bad. -

Does the tick increase with rpms.
Are you sure its not the injectors or a exhaust leak?
The injectors on our 3.8s are pretty loud I'd make sure its a lifter before you tear into anything.Comment

Ive heard bad plug wires arc out and it kinda sounds like a tick. Maybe check those.Comment

my friends 300zx had a pretty bad ticking ... they took it to the shop and it was running on 5 cylanders... :\ he had a new engine imported from japan... cost him like 11k :rolleyes: i still can beat it :D99 WS6
