  • Question for anyone that knows about reprogramming

The shop I work in just got a new Genisys with Pathfinder scan tool:

    http://www.ntxtools.com/Merchant/mer..._Code=OTC-3454

and I noticed it has a GM SPS Reprogramming option, for this a kit needs to be ordered:

    http://www.thetoolwarehouse.net/shop/OTC-3421-17.html

My question is, will this give access to all reprogramming? Or is it limited in its options. I've been searching but cannot find all of its capabilities. It's a hefty chunk of change for the upgrade but i'm thinking I can get the shop to order it, if not, I'll obtain it somehow if it will work. Just wondering if anyone is familiar with this and what its potential is.

    Thanks for any insight.

I was hoping Keith would add a little insight, I know he has studied it to no end. Already have the scan tool, but before I try to convince the shop of buying the SPS programming, I want to make sure it can change not just reset.

My biggest hope right now is in the word "reprogramming". Time will tell I guess, but, if it can do what I'm hoping it can, even if I have to shell out the 900+ for it, I think in the long run it will pay for itself and then some.

GM SPS will only reprogram your pcm's with stock binaries. Say you want to chagne a PCM from 3.08 VIN to a 3.42 VIN.. GM SPS is what you use. It won't allow you to make ANY custom changes at all.

It IS hackable.. but it takes a lot of work and you have to know hex, and what you're doing. You also need to either know how to calc checksums or know where the byapass csum bit is.
