  • My gt2 cam is in

...and the car is extremely loud with that and my rumbler. I get the dreaded rice burner sound over 3k rpms like everyone does. I might get a different muffler (magnaflow?) to replace the one on the rumbler. Anyways, my car idles like crap and wants to die and does quite often. So I am going to get it tuned sooner rather than later. I'm going to raise the idle to 900 or so. What should I set the shift points at? Rev limiter? On the ZZP site it says 6.5k shift points and 7k limiter are recommended. I was thinking more of a 6.2k shift point. Opinions on the shift points, limiter, and a muffler to tone it down a little and help with sound are appreciated.

How high you can go depends on what other mods you did....springs, rods, etc.

Shouldn't be having problems with the car dying alot.

I have the 105# springs and hardened pushrods. My idle goes from 1k or 750 to around 500 at idle. When it goes below 500 it stalls. So that isn't normal for it being untuned?
Edit: it is also misfiring, more so at the lower rpms. I know this cam sets the multiple misfire code, so should misfiring be expected before being tuned?

its called the 111LSA we have on our cams. Tuning won't get rid of that thump ;) You can however program the PCM to not have that P0300 code.

Are you getting the P0300 code?? If so, that is normal. You need to have it removed since the lopeyness of the cam is setting it off.

How are you getting it tuned?? IMO, use a powertuner or a HP tuner. Have the P0300 code removed and the idle set at around 800. Sounds niiiiiiiiiiiiiiice there. :D

I mean that the idle goes to low and stalls out.

Yeah I read that I would get that code. Yesterday though, the code went away and the car started to run perfect. Today though the code came back and it is running like crap again. :(
Someone out here has a 02 v6 license with hptuners so I'm going to see if I can borrow it and get it tuned.

i upped my id. at 1000 that was as low as i could go to stop the stalling out. i have my shift point at 6500. and my nitrous shuts off at 6200. have fun getting that tuned. it's a bit@h to get it all straight, but it's worth it.

If it misfires a lot, and it actually misfires (you can feel it, and hear a mis) check your plug wires and plugs VERY carefully. I had a bad plug wire when I reassembled my motor and I though my cam was way ****ty, until I fixed it.

Im installing this cam next week. very excited. I also orderd a mail order tune by texas speed, they are on sale right now for $200, cant beat that with a stick. I hope my idle is as crappy as yours. This is a small cam compared to my last one.

Good luck with the cam, you should love it. Are you doing the install yourself?
