  • SH*T Happened

Saturday night I was out with some friends and I could tell a little grinding feeling from the engine and it wasn't accelerating quite as fast as it had been. I have the new cam in it and I have been having some idling problems due to the fact that the cam is so big. Now, the oil pressure was lingering around 0psi when the engine was idling. After some research and talking to some fellow V6 owners, it looks like the cam bearings took a sh*t. I went out yesterday and bought a high volume oil pump and I am picking up the cam bearings this afternoon. I am planning on taking pictures of the breakdown of the work and possibly a VHS or .mpeg video. If anyone is interested, ahs questions or suggestions, please feel free to post or let me know if you would like a copy of the video.

if you had 0 psi of oil pressure, you better pull the whole motor down adn check all the bearings....

how long after cam swap did the problem start w/the oil? just like another oiling prob, check sensor, make sure that oil pump shaft was seated properly when cam swapped in.

I am planning on taking the engine out in order to do the cam bearings so I will go from there with further inspection. The engine was running for less than 30 minutes after the initial signals that there was a problem.

Ran fine for over a week before the problem occured. I have talked to a handful of people at this point and the general idea is that the cam bearings are shot. We will find out by this weekend either way.

I let it run for about 25 minutes above 2K RPMS. When it cooled down, I changed the oil.

thats just plain awful man....how soon do you think you will be up and rolling again?

By the way you might have posted this(and I asking this since you car is down) but did you ever dyno and run with that cam?

I never got to the dyno because I was having some idling issues that I had not resolved. I'll have it back together soon with the same cam, or at least a replacement for that cam if it's in bad condition. At that point, I will be on the dyno.
