  • Old friend seeking help again

Been a long time since i have been on these boards but i am a veteran. I have a Tick i cant find and would like some ideas before taking it somewhere or me tearing down the motor.

It is a pretty load tick that u hear in park and increases in speed with rpm. I have done almost all i can think of i replaced the lifter redid the rocker arms and replaced plug wires and checked coils and eunpluged each injector one @ a time while running to see if it was them no change in sound I even went as far to replace entire exshuast system to all stock from the motor back from RKsport headers, to stock tubular manifolds and so on. But yet no luck i would like any help please before i waste money or time.

Where does it sound like the tick is coming from?

Lift the car up, start it and get underneath the engine.. where does it sound like it is coming from?

      How loud is it?

WHen you replaced the lifters and rockers did you check pushrod straightness?

      What cam do you have?

Does it sound like its 1 tick per revolution or several ticks.

cant pinpoint the tick but it seems to be louder on the driverside. Stock cam and the motor is a rebuilt with only about 6000-7000 miles on it all the pushrods were stright they are chromemoly pushrods i had left from first cam swap.

something hitting a pulley, or the belt? check all the open things that spin faster with engine RPM

also, are you low on coolant by any chance?

Thats something to check... Its unlikely but free or cheap. Take the pulleys off mae sure they are clean, and put them on tightly even with a little grease. I have tracked a tick down like that before. And woudl chec ther before I pulle the valve covers again.
