I was gonna do a TPI, but you wont be able to manage with the distributor under the dash, if it even fits there.

Heres some pics of the ZL1.

The engine bay pic shows the fit in the cowl to fit the engine. Hope this helps clear up some confusion. It can be done.

dude why are you so against an LS1 or an LT1?

put an LT1 on there with a blower and youll be set.

relatively cheap and would make some good power.. if you dont beleive me check out the blown LT1 video on racingflix.com ;)

That isn't the car I was thinking of. There was another GM project car a bit earlier than that one. It was red with some white and yellow flames. Same basic concepts I am sure, but there is another example out there somewhere, I just haven't been able to find any pictures of it.

I know the Camaro you're thinking of. It's yellow and has a LS-1. There is also a red Camaro with white and orange flames on the back, and a 510 big block. Here are the links.

These are pics from Popular Mechanics Magazine online. These are proof that a Big Block 4th Gen F-Body is a rarity, and a badass muscle car.

i'm plannig to change the 3.8 next year and relace it with a 383 long block LT1, i called up this guys and they told me they're offering lifetime waaranty on their products, besides this engine is cabaple of 480HP, it would pass smog check here in california, it would fit on our cars, the 4L60E would work too , sound nice ahhh, the price is like $6500 and if i remember they are offering a turnkey option on this engine. i'm saving my money fot this baby, cause i dont have any experience doing engines( i'm just a network admin with a lot of passion for my camaro ). i know we have to change others things like diferential, TC, Suspension, and a lot of other things, but who said that true monsters were cheap.

Sweet man . If they will give you a 383 stroker LT-1 and install it :D for $6500 , then that's great. Just the motor alone is usually +/- $3000 for the stock LT-1, plus $1500 for the stroker kit parts(3.75" crank, rods, pistons) and probably over $1000 for the labor. Not to mention all the accesories to complete the swap. If you can drop off your car and a $6500 check, and pick up a 383 LT-1 beast, then that is a very good deal.

My new idea is to build a small block from a conventional block. I have a Chevy High Performance magazine that has 7 power engine combos article. They have a 355 "Salsa Mouse" built by Westech Performance group. They took a GM Performance parts ZZ4 Short block, which already has a forged crank and rods, and added forged Fedral-Mogul pistons, blueprinted and balanced the entire assembly. They added AFR 195cc heads, a Comp Cams hydraulic roller, Edelbrock intake, 8500-cfm carburetor and MSD 6AL ignition. They achieved 436 ft/lbs torque and 506 hp on the dyno. That is a mighty little combo that would propel a Camaro past the 12 second mark! A 350 short block is around $1000 from PAW or other outlets. Add another $1200 for decent pair of heads, and you have a killer mouse. GM Performance also has a ZZ$ Long block kit for $3400. It is much easier to make power from a carburated engine than a fuel injected LT-1 or LS-1.

I have been watching EBay this weekend and for a LT-1 engine and tranny. The cheapest I found was around $1500 for just the engine, no accessories. With accessories around $2500. And with the entire kit, engine/tranny/wiring/ecm/accessories for around $3000-$3500. LS-1 run for around $4000-$5000 per setup. I could buy just the LT-1 engine and buy all performance accessories such as a starter, alternator, water pump and other such parts separate. I would not buy the tranny stock. I would buy a Art Carr or Coann or other similar performance 700R4 or 4L60E. Then I would buy a stroker kit and pay to have it installed on the block. Heads could be stock ported, or I could trade/sell them for good ones. I live in Clearwater, FL. CNC Cylinder Heads is in Pinnelas Park, about 10 miles from my house. They are world famous cylinder head porters and I could literally drop them off there.

Lets say I purchased a LT-1 long block on ebay for $1500 with no transmission. Then bought a performance tranny. Jim Pace GM Parts sells Hughes Performance rebuilt tranny's for about $900 for a TH-350/TH-400. 700R4/4L60E run about $1500. Right there I would have a LT-1 and tranny for $3000, ready to install. BTW- I haven't mentioned T-56 6speeds because I would go drag racing alot and wan't consistency. A 6-speed would be about the same price.

There are so many options out there that the possibilities are endless. Choosing what to do is up to you. I know this is a V-6 board and most of you are trying to improve the engine you already have :D . I totally respect that and encourage you to continue. Just realize that some of us view a base model V-6 as a starting point for a great hot rod . Some of us will stay with their V-6, and some of us are looking to move on to bigger(cubic inches ;) ) and better things. Sorry I keep ranting about outlandish and near impossible projects. But I am doing some serious deep thinking lately and just need to share them with people. Thanks for listening .
