Robert, thanks for the info. I will check into that one as well. I know ZZ performance gives you 100 bucks for your old rockers. Makes it about $449 for the 1.90:1 ratio rockers. I know the rocker swap will give me a little increase and not throw any computer codes out.

Keith, I was trying to think of a way to avoid the cam install as I have read alot about it messing up computers and such. That was my only real concern because I do have to drive my car everyday.

I don't mind replacing pushrods, springs and what all is involved with the cam install. I really don't mind the extra parts, and work if I am going to get a larger amount of power. However, it depends HOW much more power, and where that power falls in the RPM range.

What combination of cam/other parts needed do you sugest that won't bugger up the computers on these car? I want to try and compare that HP to the rockers.

Also will the cam make power thru the whole RPM range or only when your screaming at 5k?

Will the rockers make power thru the whole RPM range or also only at 5k?

Please advise.

Jam, cam install isn't THAT hard.. Mike and I both have tons of pictures on our websites.

Rockers are more forgiving.. however you spend the same $$$ and a little more time on a camshaft and the gains will be MUCH better.

also, zzperformance sells a VS cam that won't set off any ses lights and will get u some ok gains. better than rockers, but not the best, since it's got a huge lobe separation like out stock cam has. the longer duration as well as the increased lift will help everywhere in the powerband.

So why do I get more power from the cam? Is it due to more lift? Longer duration?

SLP Performance Parts was among the first companies to develop power-enhancing hardware for 3800 powered vehicles. Now SLP is taking the 3800 bolt-ons to the next level, with the introduction of their exclusive 1.80:1 ratio Aluminum Roller Rocker Arms and Pushrods Package.

SLP's product description:
As the workhorse of GM's passenger-car powertrain lineup, the 3800 is equipped with a mild camshaft suitable for use in a variety of vehicle applications. Simply increasing the rocker-arm ratio from 1.6 to 1.8 yields valve lift figures of .464/.459" (stock is .413/.408"), with no adverse effect on drivability.

These rocker arms are manufactured from high-strength T6 aluminum and feature a roller trunnion and tip that significantly reduce valvetrain friction over the stock steel units. Best of all, no valve cover modifications or spacers are required for installation.

PACKAGE INCLUDES:
- T6 aluminum 1.80:1 roller rocker arms
- custom pushrods

- all necessary hardware
- detailed installation instructions

Each rocker bears the SLP Performance Parts logo.

Did some searching, and found a good point that Magnus made in an old post where someone was asking about higher ratio rockers.

He said, "Those rockers will not provide any less friction then stock. They will actually provide more resistance than a stock lifter due to the increased ratio."

The point I'm looking at is that higher ratio's give more resistance. Is this true?

I though this was a good point and needs consideraiton for anyone thinking of the higer ratio rockers.

there are full roller rockers in 1.6:1 ratios. check intense racing's website for them. they're the 1st gen rockers and theycome in 1.6:1, 1.75:1, and 1.9:1. just by swaping in roller rockers of the same ratio, u should be able 2 get a couple hp, since they weigh less, there's less friction at the tip, and they're stiffer, meaning more lift and less flex.
