• strange, strange noise.. need help

ok there, i feel this does belong in advance tech.

in the past few weeks my car is making a strange noise coming from the engine bay. it sounds like a hissing noise and it very loud. i know i have a leak somewhere but i can't pinpiont it. it sounds like purging nitrous, and i do have a ses light., but i don't have my autotap on me. also i only get the noise when the engine ids under load and above 3000 rpms

Take some carb cleaner...Spray it down all of your vacum lines...Listen for your engine to change pitch and bingo....Or if you have access to a smoke machine or a fog machine works also...
This is how I have always found vacum leaks that I cant pinpont on vacum lines....

Or you can take a piece of Hose. Like a vaccume cleaner hose and put one end to your ear and the other end move around the engine compartment. You will find your leak.

Pull the vacuum boot off of the throttle body and check the boot for cracks. I did that not too long ago and I had a nasty crack in it. Just an idea on where to start.

check the EGR tube that connects between EGR and exhaust manifolds, i just had that problem a few weeks ago, normal vacume leaks dont always throw SES< but this one will cause it will complain about the misfuctioning EGR .

Like he's describing it doesn't sound like the tube that connects the manifold the the EGR if that was loose you'd just hear a little exhaust leaking and it'll sound like a GN, lol. Beleive me i just broke off the bolt head on the manifold that connects that tube and went through pure hell. Whatever you do, do not try to take that tube off. You'll probably only make matters worse. I ended up welding the plate to the manifold and using lots of muffler mender.

BTW, before you remove the EGR (if you really want too) makesure you order EGR gaskets first. It'd probably be better to leave it alone rather then go exploring through all kinds of stuff.
