Ok, I'm halfway through my heads and cam install and I can't get the balancer back on the crank. We've tried everything from tapping it on with a wooden block, to tightening it with the old bolt to heating the sliding surface of the puller with a torch. The dam thing won't go the last 1/2" to seat against the timing sprocket.
Is there a trick to this. I just line it up until it hits the key, then push it on by hand and then try to get it seated.
Thanks

The only thing that I can think of as well is that that there must be something obstructing it. I am trying not to have to remove the timing cover again and get new gaskets.

are you sure that crank sprocket is in the keyway, and not sticking out? did you have any probs installing the timing chain? is the front cover installed right?--> if the front cover is mounted flush then your oil pump is installed correctly is what i'm getting at.

The crank sprocket went on fine and on the key (the only way it would go on I think). I installed the front cover correctly and torqued all the bolts to right amount. I may have to pull it off and check it out if I can't get this dam thing on.

i put my pulley back on yesturday, and i had the same prob as you did...lined up the keyway & it wouldn't go on...turns out i had the pulley cocked a bit, so it wasn't going on perfectly straight...i had to pull it off with a harmonic balancer puller & then i put it on straight, no probs.
