Hey guys I think you're forgetting that he's driving a camaro and this wrecked car is a firebird. He can't start pulling body parts off the 6 and putting it on the bird... it's just not going to look right!

I say go for the swap!! thats a killer deal man. just don't forget the smaller stuff.... if you didn't know already you're going to need bigger fuel lines, different radiator, LSD is not needed but almost a must... I'd be putting that firebird rear end on your car too if it's in good shape because you're probably going to want the extra stopping power. Oh yeah... V6 suspension vs LT-1 suspension parts...... gonna need an upgrade all over the boards there.

I don't mean to overwelm you but just in case you hadn't already thought of these details, I wanted to point them out before you got yourself into something a little bigger then you anticipated.

Oh, no. Of course, don't put a Camaro beak onto a Firebird. I was talking spindles, control arms, frame rails, stuff like that. It might even be the same fender, I don't know. Actually, I don't know what's more hassle changing all those parts or dealing with a tainted registration every year. It's going to be a headache, but a really fast car will be the result.

It would be cheaper to get a car that had an LT1, that may have an engine than it is on its way out, then to just stick that 48K LT1 from this 1000 dollar car in it. In fact, that IS cheaper. Otherwise, you might as well buy a new DAMN CAR!!! What you want to do takes some serious $$$

I think its better to just swap the engine/parts since he already knows how his car is/what condition it is in. Thus he doesn't have to worry about stuff breaking as easily, which he would if he just bought a used car. Who knows how the previous owner treated the car. I think it would definantly be cheaper and much better in the long run if he just swapped the engine. Good luck and let us know how it turns out.

You have to wait until Winter to do the engine swap right? Just do everything else before then, all your suspension stuff, power windows, rear end, etc. and then when Winter comes, you'll just have to swap the engine. There's a guy on camaroz28.com named Spyral who put an LT1 in his former V6 camaro, in one weekend. Get some friends together, and get it done in a weekend that would be sweet!!! Have you thought about taking the LT1 out of the Bird and parting out the rest??? Then you could build a Stroker motor while it's already out, and still have that V6 to drive you around, then when you get done building the stroker motor, drop that in your car, after new suspension and all first, Now that would be even Sweeter!!! Why can't I find deals like this???

One word of warning is plan on replaceing all of the wiing harnesses in your car to the pontiac ones. THe pins are different locations for just about everything. ALso, you are going to have to do some wiring to get the headlights to work with the pontiac harness. I found this out the harway when i tried to put a 3800 out of a pontiac into my camaro.

Damn, why can't I come into a sweet deal like that. You should be able to do the swap for peanuts, since you have most of the parts, and your dad is a mechanic. Keep us informed!
