  • 3.8 Bore, Cam...

Does anyone know what's the stock bore size (of a 3.8) and how much the block can safely be bored over? Also, what are the stock cam specs? Thanks...

Also (I forgot) how much can (safely) the heads be milled down and how much extra compression will this yield?

for engine/cam specs, look in the technical database on firebirdv6.com. you can grind the heads down as much as you want until piston/valve clearance becomes an issue. max "safe" bore is .02 over. some go .03, but doesn't give much of a safety margin.

Its not worth it to bore over our cars, IMHO. The little amount that you can safely bore just isnt worth all the money. I have heard of a .02 bored over motor, but not any more. After that you have to start worrying about hitting the coolant channels. I havent heard of anyone doing a .03 bore, and bored 3.8L are few and far between anyway.
